First run at track with bad times

Ok this is the first time I have run at a track and I really got some bad times to show for it. After reading some others who had bad times, I really take the cake on it. I got 4 runs in tonight and it seems like my trap speed is way down for a stock 9. I did have my wife in the car and almost a full tank of gas(did not know I was going in the morning and filled up).

Here are my times for the night

First run
60- 2.54
1/8- 9.79
mph- 75.01
1/4- 15.00
mph- 94.97

Second run
60- 2.44
1/8- 9.63
mph- 75.30
1/4- 14.82
mph- 97.05

Third run
60- 2.34
1/8- 9.63
mph- 76.04
1/4- 14.85
mph- 94.23

Final run VS m3
60- 2.45 - 2.47
1/8- 9.78 - 9.56
mph- 75.17 - 77.70
1/4- 15.04 - 14.54
mph- 94.85 - 100.67

I have no clue what is going on, only thing I can think of is that it was to hot out here in las vegas. Even if it is hot I don't see what is going on with the times and trap speed, also I just could not figure out how to get my car going(as you can see with my 60's). After reading from some of the post I was thinking I should get a boost leak test to see if I am leaking, since I am really low on trap speed.

Would my 60's have to do with traping only 94~ or do you all think I have something wrong with getting power from some place?

Scott

Ps. was talking to a guy who had an sti and he was getting 2.0 for his 60's and running 14.0

dude have you ever driven performance cars before? You just cannot hit the track and run 11's if you never had any practice. Also NO PASSENGER while making your passes. Practice revving the car to 3 grand and then let out the clutch, hammer gas, and off you go. Please remember your 60 ft is crucial to getting a low pass, so do not be afraid to let the clutch out after you ha e reved the motor.

Honestly you need to get the feel of your car. I know exactly where my clutch engages, therfore I rev to 5 grand, have the clutch halfway out, car in 1st, then I let the clutch out fast and then hit the gas all in one motion. The evo is the fastest car I have driven off the line, so keep practicing. The heat may have an influence but not to run 15's? The STI driver couldn't drive neither. The evo 9 is a low 13 second car stock right?

your 60's are killing you

I got 2.2 60's on my 03 SRT4 on street tires...I ran a 14.2 bone stock. you should not be that far up in the 2.xxx 60's with an AWD car.

Wow, just wow!!! That is horrible. What RPM are you launching at, and what is your method? Las Vegas Speedway is a slower track, but not that slow. Your probably not shifting correctly either, you really need some practice. Hopefully next time you go there are other EVO owners there to give you pointers. Track conditions were probably pretty hot too, so that also doesn't help. You'll probably won't ever run low 13s stock at your strip, but you should atleast be in the 13s.

I was using stock rev limiter to launch off of, so I was starting at 5k and then I would slowly let go of clutch until I felt the car moving then I would release while having gas all they way down. I was shifting as fast as I could, well not on the last run. I the last run I kind of took it easier down the track since there was not staging after my third run and my car was still really hot.

I can take the heat on the 60 but I still don't understand why my trap speed was so low, wondering if something wrong like a boost leak so not getting all the power I should. I was seeing a lot of lower times for cars.

Just wanted to say all the srt-4 where doing 15's last night, most cars I saw were doing 16's+

You trap speed can be affected by bigger tires and 60' times.

Modded foxbofy 'stangs are hanging with you. Not a good sign.
'maro SS and WS6 are beating you w/ little mods. another not a good sign.

15.2 is about as good as a stock 2g FWD DSM.

Try different launch techniques, perhaps your techinique just isn't working for you. I too bounce it off the limiter, but I quickly slip the clutch, and I am able to get 1.8s, still not great, but decent. 2.4s and 2.5s are pretty bad 60s, and not only can such a bad launch effect your E.T.s, but also effect your traps, especially if your bogging at the launch. What RPM are you shifting at? I take it alittle bit past redline, each shift.

Like I said LVS is not the greatest of tracks, and if your not properly launching and shifting, it can make your times go from bad, to extremely bad. Next time you race, talk to other EVO owners and see what their methods are. It helped me, I was cutting 2.0-2.2s, and then I had just a 5 min conversation with another EVO owner, and then hit a 1.9, and eventually 1.8s 60ft.

Your trap looks way low and your 60ft does not affect your trap speed that much. I have bogged many times in my DSM and always had consistent traps.

You may have boost leaks, or your car may be pulling timing. Hard to tell without pressure testing it or logging it.

My first thought is that you slipped the clutch too much off the line causing it to slip going down the track. You shouldn't run anything in the 2.x 60ft range with an AWD car.

down yr 60' time to 1.8 or so and u will see a high 13 sec there! u just have to keep practicing and not afraid of letting the clutch out faster! definately do a boost leak test too just to make sure u are not having boost leak problem from the factory.
