Didnt thinkt emps affected times that much, but hrmm...

Guys

Went to the drag strip last night to see how much the turbo-back upgrade affected the car. Not happy with the results

Preface:

Last year in October at the same track I ran the following best time

R/T .529
60' 1.928
1/8th 8.381
MPH 84.34
1/4 13.060
MPH 108.03

The only modifications to the car were a Works P2R flash @ 21psi, K&N Intake, Works D/V, and a Vibrant Cat-back. I realized the 60 foots were sucking but I was on a stock clutch that went out sometime thereafter. I guess that the temps were around 60 degrees. I dont remember there being much wind at my front or back.........

As stated previously, I installed some new parts over the year and went back to the same track last night. I installed

ACT HDSS Clutch Kit
Prostreet 10lb Flywheel
Helix o2 Housing
Perrin 3" DP
Ultimate Racing 3" TP
Stock Recirc (sold the WORKS D/V)

Last night I would guess the temps were around 80 degrees, and not much wind at all. I dont have the timeslips in front of me, but I made about 4 passes and gave up. I think my best pass was a 13.2 @ 103mph with a 1.85 60 foot. I realize the 60 foots still need improvement, but I sure as hell didnt expect to lose ET and a ****load of Trap speed by ADDING mods. Its been a while since I've boost leak tested the car, but I would guess that I'd feel a boost leak (this isnt my only turbo car) The tune has not changed, and when I had works flash the ECU, I had them flash it for a TBE anyways, so I dont feel that the tune should be off.

I would like to also add that my friend that went with me also has an 05 Evo and I witnessed him running pretty consistent 12.7s around a month ago, and last night he bested a 12.9@104 running like 25psi. It didnt feel very humid out, so I'm not exactly sure what the heck was up with our cars........anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

I made my best dyno numbers in Dec and my worst Dyno numbers in July. I am talking about 60-70 degrees difference here in AZ.

Could be a boost leak, but could just be the temps. I know 20 degrees doesn't sound like much, but I know while driving in SoCal during the day, it's about 95-100 degrees, and at night about 75 degrees, and that's just a 20-25 degree difference, but my EVO feels a lot more powerful during the night than during the day. Also track prep can change, but I can understand your frustration, but if other cars are also running slower than normal, than it could be a sign that it just wasn't a great night at the track and your car is just fine.

Another thing to keep in mind about temperature is a 20 degree difference in ambiant air temp may be much greater on the track. As an example, in the summer it is not uncommon for track temps to be 20 degrees hoter than ambiant air temps and sometimes even more. The temp may have been in the 80s, but your intake air may have been closer to 100 degrees. During the fall and winter, especially in the evenings, the track temp is much closer to ambiant air temp.

Just wait a few months and try again.

To add a little to this situation, I was the "other" evo at the track that night. About 1 month ago I was at the same track with same mods and same tune. The track temp was with 10 degrees, but I was running against a 15-20mph head wind. Fast forward to this past weekend and Booztd 3 and I went to the track and with no wind I was .3 tenths slower. Now boost leak could be a problem for both of us, but who knows.

Most likely the tracks timing system was off. OR it's possible atmospheric conditions took a toll, or boost leak. Who knows; try to fix all of the above and see what happens.

Probably going to perform a boost leak check today if its not raining, then pull the plugs. I also need to apply my euro badging

Going from 60* to 80* temperatures won't make you lose 40+whp.

Something is not right .
Boost leaks
Timing being pulled
Missfiring . What was your trap at the 1/8 ?
ect...
.

When you say you put the stock DV/BOV back on, do you mean the plastic VIII valve?? If so, get a IX/JDM MR DV , it holds boost a lot better then the plastic one.
