Track Results-Bone Stock IX - 450miles

Best Pass:

78degrees / 60 Dewpoint / 300ft Altitude (94 OCTANE SUNOCO-1/2 tank)

60' 2.081
330 5.787
1/8 8.940
MPH 78.38
1000 11.683
1/4 13.953 @ 99.83

SUCKS I know, but this was with a more or less Perfect Launch:
Roll easy into the beams, stage SHALLOW for some run out, 5000rpm rev limiter,
and east clutch release (pulled back as if I stepped in Dog Crap) and it Felt strong..but the Numbers don't lie...
And my Other two passes with Crappy 60's had almost IDENTICAL MPH...99.93 & 99.91....I just pulled back WAY tOO fast on the clutch and bogged....

So all this beggs the Question HOW THE HELL did Motor trend get thier:
13.1@105??????

Dude, I've been reading this board and have OVER 25 years of racing experience and Engine building (Turbo Buicks, ie. REAL fast cars) and OF COURSE I know about the 600 mile break in, until tonight the car has NEVER Touched 7000rpm, and Never Full Throttled for the First 200 miles, and I Changed the Oil & Filter Mobil 1 & Factory Filter on Thursday Night......thats a rather Proper Break in......

Besides 450 to 600 miles is NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE....

Your right numbers don't lie, and that was not a perfect launch. Your fooling yourself if you think a 2.0 60ft is anywhere near a perfect launch. I'm unsure on why your trap speed is so low, but I do believe your EVO IX is making the power, your pulling about 21.5mph on the back half which isn't bad, but I believe your not doing something right during the 1st 1/8th mile other than your launch.

I had nearly identical 60fts, but on one pass I trapped only 78mph in the 1/8th, and the other pass I trapped 82mph. On the 78mph I knew my 2nd to 3rd gear shift wasn't very smooth and I shifted to early at 6800RPM.

I honestly believe your shifting is hurting your trap speeds.

This goes back to your other thread where you THOUGHT you were doing what felt like a great launch, but it was nowhere near even a GOOD launch...not even an AVERAGE launch. Remember, I even predicted that you would get a 2.0-2.1. So many people think they've mastered launching by how hard it pulls on the street, but they don't realize how much time is wasted during that initial rolling or clutch slipping phase. Tonight, you got to see first hand what I was talking about.

As for the mph, that is an indication of a terribly weak IX. You shouldn't be worrying about what Motor Trend got. You should be looking at the other IXs on here who have hit 12s stock at 105-107mph or even the 03-05s who hit 13.0-13.1 in stock form with less stock power than the typical IX.

The details you listed for the break-in don't sound right to me, so not sure why you thought that was a "rather proper breakin," but I don't really think that has anything to do with your trap speeds. I'm guessing you don't have a boost gauge, so you're likely not sure if you're even hitting full boost.

Just a little bit more practice and you will get it.

Well since there were SEVERAL VIII's there as well, both well kept STOCK '05's and BOTH thier MPH's were 97and change I think my MPH is fine, and on the Launch, if you read my Description, short of UnPlugging the Rev Limiter, how In God's Name can you Improve on that?????

I think the WEATHER hada LOT to do with it...Most of the Other folks with Stock IX's that I've Personally seen race (at LEAST a a DOZEN or so earlier this year in 49-58 degree Early Spring Weather were All running ~101-104mph, so it COULD be the 76degree Humid Weather....at least from what I've seen over the course of racing Intercooled Turbo cars (Buicks) for the last 20 or so years..ALWAYS MUCH Faster in Cold Weather!!!

Warr,

The Bottom Line on Launching seems to be Too fast and you BOG..Too Slow and you Burn Clutch, assuming a 5000rpm launch...So since I was Right in the Middle Tonight....Not too fast, and Certainly not Slipping...NO Burning Clutch Smell....
HOW Could that be Improved Upon????....

And as for the MPH, YES, Motor Trend and all the Folks that ran 105mph (which at Etown, Atco, and Maple Grove I've NEVER seen a STOCK IX Run BTW, best I've witnessed in watching 25/30 or so passes was a 103) anyhow I belive ALL the Good MPH were acheived in 50-60degree weather!!
