another first timer here

well went to the track yesterday. it was my first time with this car. got in 11 runs from 11:30 to 7:00. had a good time. the car is stock and its an 06 9 with SSL.

my two best runs were

run 1 run 2
60 foot.....1.871.....1.943
330 foot...5.490.....5.555
mid MPH...81.68.....81.59
660 foot...8.522.....8.583
990 foot...11.073...11.118
MPH.........104.04...102.83
1320 foot..13.346..13.379

so anyways i did these with full lift shifts, slipping the clutch at what i thought was good or ok. the weather was good around 70-75 and a little cloud cover.

anyways i would like to here some input about these runs, and maybe what i could do to get a little fast, like maybe 13.0-.1.

Sean

How did you launch?

1.8-1.9 is ok, but with some practice 1.7s or better can be had on the 06s.

What RPM did you go to before shifting?

Practice will make you faster, as well as lightning shifts. I fully lift when I shift also. And lowering that 60 ft will get you down also.

Overall, not too bad for a first time.

Pretty good - just need to learn to launch using the built-in 5k limiter, or if that doesn't work, disconnect the switch and launch from 5500-6000. You're a low 1.7 60' from a 13.1 or maybe 13.0.

well with the launch i used the built in rev limiter.
i had used 111 octane, 3 gallons of that mixed with about 5 of 92 oct . the best regular gas we can get is 92 oct. and i have to go to minnasota to get that (i live on the boarder).

the race gas may actually be hurting your performance. if your 100% stock try just straight pump gas next time and see what happens.

Ya use 100 oct unleaded on a stocker...its like 93 with some extra kick...would help with any knock or pulled timing...but not a lot until you get some mods.

Practice a little more on that rev. limiter. Take out the slack in the clutch when you are at the lights. Then just walk it back at a brisk, but not fast pace. And whosh (yes thats the sound it makes) you will be off and running - hopefully with a 1.7 60 ft.

see when i launch i just rev to 5k then slip it to a little roll and preaty much just dump it after that.

and im sure you guys are going to say this is bad but that 111 was a leaded gas.thats why i mixed it also so that i didnt burn up im cat.

does no lift shifting make that much difference? just wondering, i dont like doing it cause it just seems so hard on the car.

You described the proper launching technique, but the timeslip shows that you didn't do it right. It just takes practice. When you're doing 1.7s every time, then you know you got it, and you might sneak in some 1.6s.

Absolutely no reason to use 111oct (never even heard of 111oct, but hey!), because you have no mods. The stock tune is already rich as hell, and the stock boost tapers significantly, so without either 1) a way to retune for race gas, or 2) a way to raise boost, then you are just wasting money and POSSIBLY making things worse.

Mixing the gas doesn't save your cat. If it's leaded, it will still hurt the cat, so I highly recommend not doing that again.

No-lift shifting is not required to go fast. You do need to shift as fast as possible, though.

your launch technique from your description is right on, however I feel you need to undo the rev limiter in 1st and rev it up to around 6300. Stop you leaded gas with a cat. The cats are very expensive to replace, order a test pipe asap if you want to run leaded. I thought your times looked pretty good for a stocker. Good luck

so this day i went it was just a come out and race day. there were no brackets and there were a lot of cars on street tires and i dont think the track prep was as good as a race weekend.
would that have anything to do with a slower 60ft time cause of maybe not hooking up?

Well, you have to tell us if you were spinning all through first. We don't know. It's unlikely, but if you were spinning, then you'd already know and wouldn't be asking us.
