Removing stock muffler 4 track
Removing stock muffler 4 track
I searched but didn't find the answer.
I've heard that taking off the stock muffler will free up some horsepower. My car is stock performance wise except for wheels and Works drop-in. I plan on going back to the drag track this weekend for some fun. I'm wondering if I should unbolt the muffler to possibly improve my previous times.
-Will it help or hurt performance?
-Do they allow me to do that at the track?
-Do I need to worry about burning anything under the car? letting it sit and idle?
-Is it safe to do being that I'm not tuned to run that way? lean/rich/knock?
I appreciate the feedback. Sorry for the newb question that has problably been asked before.

I'm not sure if it adds any power or not, but I know there was a guy guy with a EVO IX running 7.9s-8.0s@84-85mph (1/8th of course) and his only mods were a drop in filter and stock muffler removed. Quite an impressive feat.
Maybe I should just try it for a few runs to see if my times improve.....
