First time with the new car...

Took my stock car to the local 1/8 mile track just to see how it compared to my old 8 I had. Warrtalon, I know the 1/8 is retarded, but thats all I had within a hour of me so sue me.

Needless to say, I couldn't get used to the 5000 limiter the 9 has on it, but I managed a best 1.91 60ft. of the night followed up by a 8.4 @ 81mph. That was my best run out of 5 and none of them really had a clean launch.

Next thing on the list is to get this damn limiter raised up to like 6000 or something.

I remember reading about a fuse that can be removed to disable the limiter on the 05's. Do the 9's have the same one? If so, where is it located and is it safe to run just on the track without it?

Thanks...

Hey corey, my boss went down there and said he saw some evo's running, he's into cars and always talks to me about mine. He said the best time was like an 8.2 at 86 or something, and i was shocked out of all those evo's no one ran any 7's. Now he thinks they're slow.

Lastnight? Mine was the only one there lastnight. There were some STI's there trying to get into the 7's, but it wasn't happening. I think the best best time from them was a 8.02 @ 86mph. So close, yet so far. There hasn't been a local STI run in the 7's yet. They have the mph to do so, but I think the gearing is killing them.

Thanks for posting in my thread even though you didn't comment on my times. At least someone cared enough.

yeah, i couldnt work w/ the stock 5k 2step either... but 6k is way to high. Trust me, i tried it... all i did was spin all 4 tires through 1st gear. Depending on power (i see u are stock) try anywhere from 5500-5800rpm on the 2step. If you have ECUFlash and a Tactrix cable you can do this at the track. BUT that 1.9 you did aint bad to me at all. W/ the 5k stock 2step limiter, i could only get a 2.2 (it kept bogging) But then again, i was so nervous and overthinking the launch that i kept dumping it. I suck at launching... which shows why my best is a 1.8-60' w/ the higher 2 step... dont know much about 1/8th... but for my 2 cents, i trapped 85-86mph in the 8th during my 12.5 1/4mi run(just a few higher than yours) so i think u may have a good time there for stock??

Yeah...I the 5K limiter is hampering my launching. I just have to get used to the stock clutch again and this limiter for the time being. I had a Exedy twin disk in my last EVO. My problem was I was slipping it too much. The car would kinda sit there for a sec and then just shoot off the line and then when I get back to the lanes, I could smell the clutch. I know this car has more MPH and a better ET in it, if I get the 60ft. down.

I don't have ECUflash or a Tactrix cable, but I plan on getting all that over the winter. I don't know anything about tuning, but I would like to have all that stuff for someone that does. I have plenty of buddies that know how to tune around me so thats not a issue. I need a laptop too.

Thanks for posting.

Corey, that's basically identical to my first trip to the strip with my 05 MR. I didn't even know about that 5k limiter or the switch, and my first run was an 8.4@80 with a 1.92 60', so I know the feeling. That run was a 13.17@103.89, so it gives you an idea of where you'd be on the 1/4. You may have even been a little quicker in the 1/4, since it's not a stretch to think your IX would pull a little harder on the back half.

Yes, ALL Evos have that switch, even 03-04s, but they just didn't have the limiter set to 5k - it was set to 7900 from the factory. This limiter has always been there - just never understood until after the 05s came out.

Thats cool. I think this car has a 8.20 in it or maybe lower with the right 60ft. I know the shifting isn't the problem. I just have to get used to the stock clutch again and this 5K limiter.

Why get used to the 5k limiter? You already know you can disconnect the switch. As soon as I learned that, I ran a 12.8 @ 106.3 in the MR with a self-tuned SAFC and a 1.76. Just got better from there without the 5k limiter in the way.

I know I'll probably get the usual answer to this question, but how do you disconnect this switch? I thought it was a fuse or something? I'll be more than glad to search, but I don't really know what to search for.

Hey man, not bad. I'll be taking my 8 to the 1/4 this friday. It'll be my first time launching an awd car and my first time drag racing since oct 2003 (in my eclipse rs-t) so i'm probably looking at mid-low 13's... Anyway these tires rock, thanks again! :-p
