Going to the track for the 1st time this Saturday....
Ok so I've decided that i'm going to take my car to the track this upcoming Saturday. Temperature is supposed to be about 65 degrees. I've been wanting to do this for awhile but keep chickening out due to not wanting to put un-needed wear on the clutch. My dad's friend is the one who is wanting me to go with him. He's driving a 94 cobra fully built running 10's. I figured that once I get there i'll take out the stock subwoofer and spare and put a few gallons of 105 in. My car is basically stock with just a catback, k&n drop in, and AMS reflash running 21psi (no boost controller). I have 25,000 miles on the stock clutch so far and really don't want to blow it out just yet so I might take it really easy. However I would like to see if I can pull off a 12.0-13.1 quarter with a decent launch. I don't know why i'm so nervous but I figured as might as well do it sometime. Should be a lot of fun and hopefully I don't break anything!
12.0-13.1 huh...
I'm guessing the 12.0 was a typo, but expect low-mid 14's your first run if you've never launched or drag raced before. You should be able to get low 13's though.

Honestly speaking if this is your first time going, dont expect to get anywhere near 12 seconds. You have a basically stock Evo, and those run low 13's if the driver is experienced and you launch hard.
Also don't try to go too easy on the car. Slipping the clutch too much can actually turn out to be worse. Have fun, and make sure you have money just in case something does go wrong.

not tryin to scare u but chances are that u'll blow ur clutch. u already have 25k miles on it. do a few launches and its gonna be toast. i hope u have some money on the side for a new clutch. good luck'
With the stock clutch, I've dropped the clutch a few times on accident (1st MT car). I have an MR 9 and tranny is rated at 290. With your power, you shouldn't be able to break things yet (no dropping). On my 1st time I ran pretty consistent times. Just take a deep breath and ignore the car on the other lane. You should finish in 4th gear bumping the 7500 rev limit.

In response to ottomatic do i really want to be bouncing off the limiter at 7500rpm's??
Don't bump it too long, maybe only for a second. To rephrase, on a near stock car like yours, shifting at say 7100 rpm in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, you will end up in 4th gear near the finish line. Shifting to 5th can hurt your time, so if you finish in 4th gear you will be bumping the rev limiter.
