First time to the strip

I went to the drag strip for the first time over the weekend. Since I recently got a tune from AMS. I wanted to see what I could put up.
I made about 10 passes with my best at

1.955 60 ft
8.879 1/8
11.583 @ 79.2 1000
13.849 @ 100.9 1/4

I was hoping to break in to the 13's with the stock clutch having almost 50k miles on it. I wasn't launching over 4k rpms. Overall I can't wait to go back.

your car has issues, should be at least a 108 trap.

^^^ I pretty much agree. Even with the stock clutch w/ 50k miles, if it hasn't been driven hard to often, it should still hold ok with the power numbers you have. You should be able to pull 60' times in the 1.7X time range and at least be breaking into the 12.9-12.8 territory. rev it to 5k and drop the clutch. that clutch will give out before any other drivetrain part...so you shouldn't have to worry about that. maybe you can get some better times next time. getting used to launching AWD is a little tricky though!

most cars seemed to be pretty slow there that day. Density Altitude at about 3 pm was 2073 feet above sea level. for reference I ran a 03-04 cobra on a run and he ran 13.5@104

being his first time, shifting was probably a tad slower than a veteran

either way I am sure he had fun and with more visits it will run much better.

p.s. not here to cause trouble I like EVOs and drag racing

Your trap speed indicates the car has a lot of tuning potential. A bone stock evo with just a tune can trap over 100 easy, regardless of launch.

Let me know if you need help with the tune.

My highest trap bone stock w/out a tune was 105mph. But for my best time, I ran a 13.3 @ 103.5. So I would definitely say there is a lot more in this Evo.

As for the Cobra response, that's about average. If the Cobra was stock, or even just a catback w/out a tune, it's going to be running mid to low 13s all day. With a great driver, he might get it to 13.0...especially if he was on street tires. With D/Rs or slicks, different story.

thanks for the comments guys. yeah i really need to work on my timing and launching it correctly I was shifting early too at around 6800. I've never put it on the 2 step before so im a little hesitant. Im going to try and get out there at the end of the month and push it harder. it was a blast tho im totally addicted now

I wish I would have known people were going I am wanting to see what my car can do this year. My best time at 41 is 13.5 @ 102. That was with a boost controller only. Now I have an AMS TBE and a K&N filter. Want to get another run in before I put in the cams and get tuned by Kunal!!!
