Timeslip dissection, what am I doing wrong?
Timeslip dissection, what am I doing wrong?
I went to the track for the first time a few weeks back and this is what I was able to produce as a best run.
R/T .065
60' 1.719
1/8 7.976
MPH 90.51
1/4 12.435
MPH 112.66
Now what I dont understand is why I am running out of gear in 4th, I thought a VIII 4th gear was good for like 120+? I believe my limiter is set to like 7800-8000 and I am most deffenitly bouncing off a few times at the end of the strip.
Is it possible I'm hitting my max MPH then falling as I hit the rev limiter and cross the 1/4 mark? I really expected to do better, I dont think my 60ft were that bad and from what I've heard I expected that to be the hardest part.

The only way you're bouncing off the limiter in 4th is if your clutch is slipping or your rev limiter has been LOWERED to 7400 or so.
With a 90+ mph 1/8th, you would probably trap 115 or so in the 1/4 if not for hitting the limiter, so your max trap is definitely being "limited." With that good 60' and 90.5 at the 1/8th, it tells me your 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are very slow. I would expect a 7.7 at least with that 60 and mph.

Tire diameter affects gearing. If your gearing is significantly decreased, then you will be going much slower at the same rpm. Likewise, if your tires have a larger diameter than stock, then your gearing is made taller, thus giving MORE mph at the same rpm. For instance, my 245/45 drag radials are taller than stock thus giving me the same traps (116-117) at 300-400 less rpms (7300 vice 7700).
Your 255/35-18s are shorter than stock by 1.2%, so this will lower your gearing but not enough to cause 112mph traps at 7800-8000rpm. I'm thinking your rev limiter is set lower than you think.
Specification---Sidewall---Radius---Diameter---Circumference---Revs/Mile---Difference

255/35-18--------3.5in-----12.5in-----25.0in----------78.6in------------806---------1.2%

Good read, your right it may be set lower then I think.... I was going to call english racing today and head up there to get it raised but I thought I would check it out first, it was between 7800 and 8000 in 2nd.. obviously I dont have a way to check for 4th gear on public roads so I may just take it to them anyways to double check. I know for sure I was bouncing bad off 4th before the end of the 1/4.
