First night out in the evo.

Long story short, Great Lakes Dragaway was supposed to have an import wars event but ended up canceling the event (weather was SUPPOSED to be bad, so alot of people backed out..) and issuing rain checks and making it a test-n-tune night, so i decided to run the evo. Below are 2 of my best time slips:

Run 1 :

60ft - 1.810
330ft - 5.429
1/8 - 8.418
MPH - 82.58
1000 - 10.990
1/4 - 13.150
MPH - 104.37

Run 2 :

60ft - 1.787
330ft - 5.403
1/8 - 8.401
MPH - 79.62
1000 - 10.967
1/4 - 13.122
MPH - 105.21

I was under the impression that i am supposed to be able to trap a decent amount higher than this(110mph)?? It was a pretty hot/humid day and this is on a stock clutch + street tires (suprised, didnt smell clutch all day...first time out with the car too...) 2nd pass seems like it may have been 12's but the 1/8 mile MPH is lower than the previous pass by 2 mph..maybe i had my head up my a s s shifting or something?

Have the following mods:

AMS Base Flash (boost pill removed)
AMS Turboback

Well, you have very minimal mods and no custom tune while relying on a boost pill, so I'm not surprised it didn't go that fast. The stock clutch and street tires are not limitations, but the heat and humidity definitely cost you some power. Your shifting looked ok on the first one but you had a weak 60'. The 2nd run was a better launch, but the shifting must have sucked considering the trap.

By chance, were you shifting to 5th? MR owners commonly do this mistakenly when new. That would slow your ET _and_ trap.

Hey war,

I wasn't shifting to 5th, I was running out 4th. I think I'm shifting too late (some runs I ran it out to 7500ish) where I'm not making power and would be better off shifting right at 7k? Would a MBC controlling boost better possibly give me another 5mph or so? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Yes, you should be shifting closer to 7k to stay in your powerband. No, an MBC wouldn't give you 50whp. It may not even help at all, but that depends on your boost profile, which I can't see. Typically, IXs can trap this high completely stock, and a TBE + boost-controlled tune should be another 50whp or so, if not more.

I wasn't thinking a mbc would give me more power but was thinking it would cure some boost taper. If the second run would have had my first runs 1/8th mph..would it have been unreasonable to expect a 108mph trap? (79 vs 82mph). Appreciate your feedback. Worth looking for a boost leak? It can clearly be driven better. I will log some pulls of my boost tonight and post them to see what you think. Thanks for the input.

The stock turbo will just about always taper, especially with an MBC, but it holds a lot better than stock. However, if you actually have a boost pill and have a tune that controls boost electronically above and beyond the stock settings, then it should hold pretty well. It depends on what AMS does in their base flash in conjunction with the boost pill.

No, it doesn't work that way with the traps. You weren't just randomly slower by 3mph - it probably had to do with shift points.

It's always worth checking for boost leaks.

Their base flash doesn't control boost as far as my knowledge they just have you remove the pill in the vaccum line. Sorta bummed as I see guys trapping much higher than me (albeit with better driving...) and was thinking I'd even be able to pull 108mph or so.

The drag strip is always humbling the first couple times out especially after you get done reading forums all day I know it happened to me a couple years ago.
