Man I suck....
I dragged my 9 for the first time at the Evo vs WRX shootout this year.
I only managed to pull off a 13.5 at 101mph, 60 ft was 1.9. My problem with the car was that at 7k in 3rd and trying to go it 4th I was getting locked out of gear
Also made 9 passes in 40 mins, I know that doesn't help.
When I shift I never let of the gas.
I guess I just need somemore practice or the clutch needs adjusted. My R32 ran almost the same time(14.0 at 100mph) and I know the Evo is alot faster.
I found that its all about the launch and not getting locked out
Best run was;
R/T .505
60ft 1.938
330 5.636
1/8 8.712
MPH 80.55
1000 11.363
1/4 13.583
MPH 101.01

^ thaxs bro
I was shifting the car at 7k, I was banging the gears, don't think anyone could shift any faster. And I had disconnected the 5k limiter switch on the clutch arm.
I was just reading tonight on another thread that if you leave the switch connected that when you floor the car it will make 8 to 10 psi? I know at 7k which is were I was slipping the clutch off the line it was making 0 boost.
So which is better, plugged in or not?

Never disconnect it. It helps you build boost. At 7k it wont matter cause thats when your boost is at its lowest taper anyway.
You want to launch the car then slip the clutch within the boost range then once you fully grab in the boost range let it go and make sure you shift perfectly into 2nd.

Don't worry about buliding boost. It works the same way when you slip from a higher rpm, but you don't see it, because you're moving. With the 2-step, you're sitting stationary, so you have time to see it build a little boost. It doesn't make much difference.
Problems:
1) Do not launch at 7k
2) Don't worry about no-lift-shifting when you're brand new at this on the Evo. You need to get things working normally first, then worry about crazy shifting.
3) Is this the stock clutch? No mods?
4) Regardless of your driving or launching problems, your Evo simply is not fast right now. 101mph indicates a problem unless your IX is completely stock, in which case it's just a little slow. Even if you drive like Schumacher, a 101mph trap isn't going to get you much...

Skilmatic, the whole boosting off the line at a certain rpm thing has nothing to do with boost taper. Our boost tapers at high rpm, because the engine cannot flow enough air to sustain that much boost. When stationary, that is not an issue, since we're not moving.
Also, disconnecting it is fine. All my best launches and times have been without launch control. I routinely did 5500-6000rpm quick slip launches with great success back before launch control was even an option through Dynoflash and because I simply couldn't do it well on the 5k limiter.

Also I wouldnt disconnect it thats just my opinion. Its better to launch at wot than to hover around 5-6k. Not many people can launch like you can warr so giving this guy pro advice may not be the best option cause simply he cant drive like you. He has to first get slipping down then he can move on to these things if he wants to. For a beginner it is so much easier to launch with the rev limiter especially when learning to slip. After he masters that then he can learn to launhc with no control.
I think he could have a lower trap speed because he keeps getting locked out of fourth gear and fidgeting around with it, basically kind of like missing a gear, so the power could be there. Try to shift normally but very fast and see if the lock out problem persists.

I am on the stock clutch and smelling real bad, and the only mods I have are:
HPF LICP
and the BR clutch line.
The reason for the low traps were the getting locked out of 4th. And the engine was heat socked like a mother f*cker.
I will head back and try again soon, so thaxs for the input and keep it coming.
a lot different racing an EVO then a VRT huh.
sounds like you need to adjust your clutch pedal so you don't get locked out. I was having the same problem with the stock clutch on my 8 a couple of years ago, except I was getting locked out of 3rd. The clutch adjustment did the trick. Ohh yeah and more practice.

According to Clayton, he is not paid. He is not a "pro". Good driver, sure. Employed as a driver, no.
On top of that he is not required to go to the track as part of his sponsorship. Its a good thing since he runs slower with each mod.
