To me it's about getting the power you make down to the ground to let the hp shine.

I'd much rather throw some slicks on than beat the hell out of the car trying to get it to hook up over 500+ on street radials......to me that's a recipe for parts failure as well as frustration!

I too know all to well about shoddy track prep so having a forgiving tire like a slick helps out a lot...........do you see many PR cars running at their tracks on street radials almost every night .......i don't think so........and just imagine when the tracks are preped well with slicks thats' how we see those 1.3 60's

Thank You Patrick B.!

I was just going to type the exact same thing.

While I don't usually like what gamebred has to say I do agree TO A POINT with what he said. Slicks are not run on the street and I see his point.

Tim has gone 10.05 on radials.
Jeff has gone 10.06 on radials.
Eric has run 10.4 on radials and I am sure would go faster, he only tried once.
My car went 10.02 on a DOT street tire on pump gas, 9.42 on a DOT street tire on race.

ALL of these cars are true street cars, nothing being over played about it. If you can drive your car to the track and the only part you need to change is your tires to run 9's well you have a 9 second street car.

Trent is on my butt about running the slicks on my RS. I personally do not want to run them, I want to drive my car to the track on the same tires on race on. I am being stubborn. The best 60' from my car has been a 1.51 and if it ran mid 1.40's like Eric's car did on the slicks I am sure it would run 9.20's. For me though, I want to run on what I drive on.

This said, Eric's car could run on my Hoosiers and I'd venture to guess would run the same times it is now on slicks. My car leaves quite a bit harder and spins quite a bit.

WOW this thread blew up

Eric I love that pic from the front... sh*ts HOT with the CF lip!

I drove out to the track tonight, 100 mile round trip to only be rained on

I am like Dave... stubborn as h*ll... I must drive to the track and go 9's on my wheel and tire combo then drive it home.

I tried these wheels and tires Eric used. My best on them was a 1.78 60ft, and 10.2 at 144...

I suck, so Eric you are my hero bro!!!!!!!

BTW Brian I cant go to 42 next friday, I work til 5:30, then sat.

I will be there this friday.

Thanks meng, you should pick up some CF.

You will go 9's its all in the 60ft. You shift much faster than I do so I think you will be good to go once the car hooks.

If I'm in town I will try to make it to 42.

If that's the case why not just stick w/ a tire like the QTP's / ET streets / ET street RADIAL or the new Hoosier DR's that way you can drive there and not have to swap wheels/tires.

All of the above hook similarly to a full slick but are DOT approved and handle OK on the street as long as your are cautious.

I am not trying to start any BS personally I think the Evo is a racecar period driven on the street.

But I mean if you want real street trim numbers run it like you daily drive. Not saying you are going to get your best times that way.

I mean that is what is so desirable about the pump gas numbers on the cars you produce...it's on PUMP GAS!!

Not RACE gas made for RACE CARS.

Slicks well they can knock off a ton of time..and are def not street car material.

I see your point of saying street car meaning not a gutted tin can with no power steering or a/c etc. trailored to the track.

So when in your opinion does a "street car" become a "race car"?

It becomes a race car when it is no longer feasible/logical/safe for that car to be driven on the street for a decent amount of time.

I guess all those Mustang/Camaro/Supra/Viper/etc guys that come to the track on their street tires and then switch over to slicks at the track have race cars too.

Get real dude. If I had a race car, is sure as f*ck wouldn't be going 10.0.

But my car isn't a race car, it's a street car. It gets driven on 600 mile road trips, it goes to cruise-in's, it goes to the track, it sees race gas and its going to see slicks in a couple weeks. Please tell me how its a race car just because I put a different gasoline in it and a different tire on it.

A race car is a car designed for ONE purpose.... to race it. It shows up in/on a trailer and goes home the same way. A street car you pull in, make what changes need to be made wether its swapping tires, setting air pressure, putting fuel in it, etc... to put it in "race mode", you go to staging and run it. You swap it back over and go home DRIVING it.
