Stock clutch def doesn't hold up to well LoL I bought my Evo new had 14000miles on it before I even tried launching and after 7 launches clutch was GONE! LoL def need an aftermarket if your going to launch. Agreeing with everyone else DONT DUMP! I did it just on accident and boom there went my Tcase. If it goes tho that just means time for a rebuild dont buy a new one. Runs so much better with it rebuilt.

if you break your trans just go to shepracing.com for a new custom built one. then you wont have any worries because its goin withstand anything you throw at it. i have a ix mr and my stock tranny broke, so i just went and got the 5 speed stage 3 from shep. yeah its more then what i need for the hp im making, but i dont have to worry about it breaking again.

LOL, thats pretty much what I did with my IX SE. 3rd gear was grinding and it was annoying, so I sent it to shep got the stage 1, with the 3-4 evo 8 conversion and isf/rem the gears and synchros. Even had all the gears shot peend...also, my bell housing was cracked so john hooked it up big time. Major discount for everything. Next on the list of upgrades are a stage 2 t/c and an upgraded rear diff by shep, then reflash my ACD from gruppe-s..

Launching is simple.

Step 1: Stop

Step 2: Push in the clutch

Step 3: Put the car in first gear

Step 4: Let the clutch out to find where it engages and hold it just before that (it'll make it easier to slip/dump)

Step 5: Floor the gas, and hold it to the floor. You will start bouncing off the 2-step at 5000rpm and build around 10psi.

Step 6: DO NOT let off the gas pedal at ALL, slip out the clutch until you feel it grab, then let go.

Step 7: DO NOT let off of the gas pedal until you shift to 2nd gear. The gas pedal should be held to the floor from the beginning until you shift to 2nd.

Step 8: Continue shifting gears accordingly.

that's how i've always done it, and it was good enough to get me and my IX MR to 12.82 @ 107.41 with only a cat back, no tune, no other power adders, and a slipping stock clutch.

question:

i am on the stock clutch, i know the stocker is not made for this kinda abuse, launched it once so far. my questions is if i launch it once in a while (once a week) with the stocker, you think it can hold up?

The stock clutch is fine. It's rated at 350 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel and it will hold every bit of that. I'VE BEEN pushing 330 WHP and 330 WTQ for over 10,000 miles and the stock clutch is holding up fine. I drive the car hard on the street, with countless 3,000 RPM to 6,000 RPM 5th gear pulls. I've got over 50 drag strip passes on it, each with a 60 foot time of 1.85 or better. Overall, the car has 26,000 miles and it feels fine.

Things that will kill the clutch:
- Removing the restrictor pill.
- Riding the clutch.
- Slipping the clutch too much on a launch / takeoff.

I have a question about how fast you let out the clutch. i understand you hold the clutch just before it grabs and once you start moving a little how fast do you let off the clutch when its 2 stepping? like do you just lift your leg off the clutch as fast as you can (not dumping). I have a ACT 6 puck in mine. any help would be appreciated. Im a little nervous about launching due to an indecent when i tried and i let out the clutch very slowly and i launched good then couldn't shift into 2 or 3rd and the clutch peddle was very loose and made awful sounds... but after a few hours i put it in reverse and it sounded like crap for a min and drove slowly and it went away and is completely normal again???
