Do you know how to use your factory 2-step? If so then all you have to do is remember to "GO" once you see the last yellow light. Trust me you won't be fast enough to redlight once you see that last yellow.

If you don't know about the 2-step then just find a nice parking lot full of space that's away from nosey neighbors and slowly bring up your RPMs until you engage the 2-step (5500rpm stock?) Clutch engaged, Tranny in 1st gear. You should hear a "Whop, Whop, Whop" sound. That's your 2-step. Now just push down that Gas Pedal a little further and you'll notice the pitch of the exhaust note change but keeping the same rythym. Now if you have a boost gauge you'll see it building boost. Now just slip the clutch slightly and hold on to your pants. Remember to have plenty of space to do this.

One last thing. If you're going on a street night and you're possibly in some bracket class then try to stage 1st to give yourself plenty of time to setup your 2-step.

so basically, I smash the pedel to the floor and it will naturally bounce the launch limiter at 5k or 5500 rpms, put it into 1st gear, and let out the clutch?

the car has to be still, right? How fast do you let the clutch out?

If you smash the gas you'll spin right passed the 2-step and hit your actual rev-limiter. Bring up the RPMS somewhat slowly until you hear the 2step engage. trust me , you'll know when it does. just bringing your rpms to the stock revlimiter isn't going to build any boost.

Launch the same you would on the street. Just know that once it turns green you dont have to go until youre ready. If you get into bracket racing thats when reaction time counts.

You dont have to go until youre ready, reaction time does not affect your 1/4 mile time.

Cheers!

np! Thats the most common reason for a bad launch, you get nervous and just go even if youre not ready. Slow things down and sit there for an extra second or two.

Cheers!

I foresee a blown transfer case in the near future lol. Anybody care to chime in on how to properly launch the car? Not to scare the OP or anything but I hope you have some green saved up because if you mess up the launch and accidently drop the clutch, the stress could damage your transfer case or transmission. Personally I'm too scared of breaking something to even begin learning and getting used to how to launch the car. Reason for that fear......$ The thought of the price of having to fix my transfer case makes me a little sick to my stomach lol. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat lol.

I agree, the only reason I haven't launched my EVO sooner is for fear that my ignorance will cost me more than a good launch. Although, I have three vehicles, my EVO is my daily driver. I can't bare the thought of driving my Supra or Z06 daily. The cost of gas alone is frightening as neither acheives any better than 11mpg in the city.

Another reasons also, is that I stll have a great warranty. The dealer has replaced everything include calipers without hesitation and I just don't want there to be an instance when I have to beg. I work hard for my money, and if I am going to launch the EVO god knows I'm gonna do some homework on how to do before i actually do so.
