My timeslips
My timeslips
I just got back from Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin and here are my very first timeslips with the car. A total of 4 runs in a span of 1 hour and 3 minutes of racing. Stock car with a JIC exhaust. I totally burned my clutch. It smells worse than running over a skunk. Well, here they are...

My first 2 runs were awful. I was pissed off. Bad launches. Bogged the first one because I accidentally dropped the clutch. The second one was pretty much the same, but I shifted too early out of the box while the car was just getting grip. I think I rode the clutch a little too much on that run. The third run was okay, but I think launching at 6000 RPMs was too high considering that the clutch was slipping bad. It felt like the clutch wasn't engaging well enough. The fourth launch, revved the engine at 4500 RPMs and it pulled a lot harder, but the clutch was just not up to the job. Considering that there was a lot of moisture at the track, which is what GLD is known for, I think my car did okay. I didn't wanna leave the track unless my car hit a 13-second time. Not bad for a first time AWD driver. Going to bed now...

I know that the 15s were bad, but at least I got the car into the 13s. Since this was my first time drag racing the car at the track, I wasn't really focused on my reaction times. Rather, I was trying to perfect my launching technique. I used to have a FWD car so I'm so used to dropping the clutch. Simple **** like that, but I think with more practice I can get it. I couldn't get enough runs in because there were a lot of muscle cars and bikes there.
R/T does nothing for your actual 1/4 time. It is used more for heads up and bracket racing.
Work on your 60ft and your times will improve greatly. 1.9 is ok. There are guys getting 1.8s regularly. Anything better than a 1.8 and it is very good.
BTw, what were the track conditions? Your trap speed seems a bit low.

Well, if you know anything about GLD, it's not actually one of the best tracks in the world. Nothing compared to Route 66 in Joilet. There was a lot of moisture on the track so not a whole lot of cars were getting good numbers. It was kind of a hot day too, but I didn't really take that into consideration. I think it was around 70 that night. I was also wondering why my trap speed was kinda low. I was expecting higher 90s, but I guess I need to practice some more.

Congrats! That is great improvement. Don't let some of these guys be too hard on you if they say your 1.9 isn't good. It's great from where you started (2.8). Kudos! You can always improve one way or another.
If anything, those not in the know can learn a lot about what you posted. What they can learn is how important those 60ft times are (like some are saying here). How important? With the same trap speed at the end of the 1/4 mile, you manage to shave off 1.6 (Ok 1.645 for the '****' peeps) seconds from your 1/4 mile time (15.5 - 13.9) without increasing horsepower or anything else. I was amazed at how important launching was when I saw the difference it made personally.
Good luck on your future times!

I think 13.9 is pretty good stock.
Thanks guys. I think I can do better than a 13.9 though. I'm actually getting a clutch change next week. I've already set a schedule for AMS to swap in an Exedy clutch on Tuesday. After I break that sucker in, I'll go back to the track and let y'all know what the deal is. Peace.
I'm getting the clutch job done on Tuesday and pick-up might be on Wednesday. Of course, I have to break-in the clutch for about 500 miles. It won't be for a while until I go back up there, but if you're going up there just to run I'll go with ya.
not bad stock on the last one, so far to date my best is 13.50@101.9 1.86 60ft. raced an STI with cat back, MBC, intake and he ran a 13.16@102.5 1.78 60ft. XEDY comes in 2 more weeks Shiv is so backed up on them they are on back order so i will be excited to see what i hit then and also going back to stock air intake if anyone wants to buiy RMR induction tube and intake for like 200 bucks e mail me at evo8power@aol.com...thanks guys!
nice High Rev, If you shave of 1 tenth of a second of your 60 ft that = 2-3 tenth in the 1/4. keep at it. you'll get it down there. What kind of clutch are you getting installed?
