Traction issues

Alright, so this weekend I went out to the local 1/8th mile track and could not hook up for the life of me. I was consistently pulling 1.90 60 ft. and could not dip any lower. That being said, 1st gear was pretty much useless. I would spin through the entire first gear, which obviously is killing my times. Do you guys think this is just from the track being prepped poorly? I mean, I'm not making nearly enough power to where traction should be an issue, right? I'm launching by slipping the clutch, like most Evo owners.

FWIW, my best time of the night was a 7.90 @89.6 mph. Im frustrated because I know that with my power, I should be running a little faster. I tried lowering my tires to 28 psi all around, but that didn't do much but hurt my trap slightly. Any input? Thanks

Dunlop Direzza DZ101, stock size. Tires were at 28 psi all around (didn't know how low I should go).

2 step is currently at 6000. Thinks that's too high?

Try 22psi in the front and 23psi in the rear. Then adjust the 2step rpm as needed. Good luck.

^^what he said about tire pressure..also when you line up ensure that you are in the grove. I can't count how many times I blew the tires and got sideways because I got out of the grove.

I have a feeling that tire might have too stiff of a sidewall. But I would start with 22 psi in the front and 20 psi in back. Always more air in the front or you will become a bunny down the track, and if you have adjustable shocks.. Set the as soft as you can...

i wont start that low in psi in tire LOL.

street tire go from 26-28 depending on if they are hot or cold.

next i would lower 2 step to 5200 and raise as needed

you will find your 1.6 maybe 1.5 on street tires that way.

have fun.

I launch at 5.5k and build no boost and still get just a bit of wheel spin out of the hole on a well prepped track. Tires at 24-26 psi. I actually needed some spin because it would wheel hop with no spin. Pulled a 1.77 after only 3 passes in the car. You will usually have to make adjustments to your technique and 2-step depending on the track condition. It sometimes helps to drive through the water box and spin the tires just to knock off the dirt.
