slicks

is there a difference between a DOT slick with a groove cut in it, like a hoosier QTP versus a all out not DOT slick, like the micky thompsons?

sidewalls are a little softer in a all out race setup i've been told (both being wrinklewalls). compounds used are usually pretty close. on a couple camaros i've built i had issues getting them to hook on dot M/T's but the full slick M/T's same size and press hooked fine.

so do you think its worth the extra bucks for a legit non DOT slick? could it mean the difference of a tenth or two?

From my own personal experience I would say yes. I've seen it happen more than once, bolt em on and go hit some 9's

Of course. The QTPs are still a street slick. The ET Drag is a full out drag slick!

If your getting slicks for the track why not go all out and get some true slicks. No dot approved

Why not try out the Hoosier 245/45-17 slicks from 9sec9's site? Im thinking about picking them up because theyll fit on the stock size wheel.

I dunno if that appeals to you but it does to me because I dont want to have to do a small brake kit and dont want to get a whole new set of wheels to fit the QTP's on.

I already have the small brakes from ams to run a smaller rim and have less rotational mass. The weight difference is insane between the stock rims with a motorcycle slick and a 15 inch rim with a slick. And for what I'm trying to do with my evo, every lb counts

Can you run this small break set up for D/D cars? I heard it wasn't good to do Then I hear people saying you can. Confusing.....

James just buy the same fricking tires i have and get it over with. then get back on that track.

hey now its a lot of cash, if a non DOT slick is worth a tenth more then its worth the extra cash IMO and yes you can use the small brakes for DD. AMS says you shouldnt use them for auto x type events though cause they cant handle the extra heat cause of there size

A real slick will destroy a DOT tire all day long...

You can actually get the M/T slicks from Summit for cheaper than the Hoosier QTP. No brainer for me, unless you are trying to be competitve (which makes no sense if you are on stock block).
