First time racing for me

Was originally going to keep my mouth shut cause the results are embarrassing, but it was the first time I ever raced so screw it. Got 3 runs in and did slightly better each time.

I'll paste my final run below. I was launching at 4,000 rpms and bogging badly. Getting retuned tomorrow as I added a test pipe and larger FMIC. Plan is to hit the track on the 25th again. Next time I'll be using the 2 step which I believe is set at 6,000. Since I never launched before my visit to the track I'll be trying it a few times over the next week so I'm not learning at the track. Although results were bad it was fun. Goal this year is to hit 11's. I got work to do.

ps.. look at that 60ft time, lol

Rt .453
60ft 2.718
330. 6.542
1/8. 9.421
Mph. 86.27
1000ft. 11.867
1/4. 13.897
Mph. 110.3

Your 60' is killing you. Get better at that launch and you'll pull a low to mid 12 since you are trapping 110.

Edit: You have an FP Red? I figured you would trap a lot higher than 110. did you let off the gas or granny shift?

Running 93oct, lowered the boost to 24 because I added a test pipe since my last tune. Also being new I probably wasn't near redline for all 3 shifts.

dont worry about it bro..first time..not bad..

4k is way to low to launch..atleast 5500 ....yes def dont go there to practice launching...but on street is much easier.... ya know...dont dump clutch...nice quick slip of clutch..quick and controlled which you probably already know.

plenty of time left to hit your goals...

wow i just looked at the 60...i saw 2. and thought low 2...but wow 2.7...you can shave a second off your 60ft alone with a good slip and higher rpm.

12.8 off the bat..but when you have a better launch and accel def will be low 12's easy and stay in the power band

Not knowing your dyno sheet or where you loose power but i would say shift in the 7200-7500 range. Its ok if you dont know your car yet and glance down at the tach... you are going in a straight line so you dont need to worry about obstacles...

Remember to slip not dump the clutch or you will be tranny less or transfer case less

Good luck on the 25th

Thanks for the replies. As goofy as it sounds I had so much on my mind I believe I wasn't pushing more throttle as I was slipping the clutch. Therefore I was launching from that load, bogging then accelerating from practically a stand still. Haha. It was bad. At least I wasn't dumping it. I'm focused on what to do next time. Excited to get some better times posted in this thread.

With the red you are going to have to launch pretty high. Tephramods with NLTS and launch maps can definitely help with that though. Once you raise the 2-step make sure you preload the trans so you don't break anything!

Try not to torch the clutch, but stay right at peak TQ for first gear if you can (which will be much higher than 3rd/4th gear that is shown on your dyno.

Other than that take it is high as you are comfortable going in each gear (do you have cams or upgraded springs / retainers?) and make sure you are shifting as fast as possible.

...and yes, that 60' is killing you. Every tenth up front is worth 2/10ths on the back. You should definitely be able to drop at least 1.4 seconds off your time with a decent 60' alone (try your best to get 1.7-2.0 on street tires). If you actually stay in boost the whole time down the track it will probably help even more than that.

This may sound counter intuitive... but if you are really having trouble with the launch try to line up out of the gooch at the tree. Spinning your tires may help keep your RPM up a little and may help you more than you think. Its not a best practice, but it can help you get a feel for things.

Thanks. I'm running HKS 272's. This is my only vehicle so it's the main reason I wasn't launching from the 2 step. I wanted to get a feel for everything first. I'll honestly keep the 2 step at 6,000 and if I ever cut a 1.8-2.0 I'll be happy.

When you say preload the trans. What does that mean?

i'm pretty sure he means drivetrain and not trans. When you start to slip the clutch out and your wheels move a little it takes the slack out of the drivetrain that helps stop wheel hop.

Yeah you read it right. First time back to the track in over a year with double the power. Takes a little getting used too!
