Inspiration

Going fast on 93 is great stuff. When I see your posts I always read them. Rollin down the 1320 is so awesome. Some people get the rush from skydiving, good to hear you have found something that makes you really happy.

im trying to get a hold of 2 local shops to do it. who ever can get me in sooner will take the job. it will be 6 point with driver/passenger swing outs and full interior. im going Tuesday to get a fire jacket, Snell approved helmet, and a 5pnt harness. i got to figure out how to get metal valve steams on these rims. thats all the guy at tech said i must have. the other stuff they will let me slide.

Etown is having there ''cruise'' night on the 13th. you get in for free and you get 1 pass down the track. i will be going to that in the mean time. its one pass but whatever. as of right now im band from island
Congrats Dan on your achievement

Just a word to the wise if you're gunna dial in the set-up more and more i can bet you crack off a 9 sec run so if you are planning a 6 point bar you might as well seriously consider the entire cage unless your track(s) are very easy going as once you go into the 9.99 and below range technically you need an NHRA license along w/ the safety stuff.

Mainly also wanted to ask how tall you are as there is a serious issue (if you want to abide by the rule book to the "T") about putting swing-outs on our Evo's w/ the position of the B-pillar and how the main hoop location is

That is unless you have the fab shop custom bend the main hoop to fit your head location but i think at that point it'd be very time-consuming and costly just for a "roll bar" that's why i mentioned the full cage.

Sorry don't want to sound like i'm bursting a bubble but if you are going through the effort and are excited to continue drag racing at least try your best to follow the NHRA rule book.

Best of luck and pm me if you have any ?'s!

pat thanks for your help. i need a lot of it and dont get to much from experienced people.

i am 5 foot 10 inchs and weigh 190/195

as for my cage. im new to this. i do want to break into the 9s. my goal is 9.7/5s i want to keep the car as ''street'' as i can. so a 6 point is perfect for me. i would not mind a full cage but IMO its crossing the line of being a conferable safe street car. ''for an evo that is''. the swing outs i want for when i drive on the streets. so i can remove them. then when i goto the track i can put them in. that i feel gives me some flexibility.

only thing im doing right now is 6 pnt cage, harness, helmet, jacket, and valve stems. lol island is so stricked on them. weird. lol

i did not understand the info you said about my height and head though.

Height vs rollcage?

What are you referring to for Driver height? Does it change the cage? I am not trying to be a smartass, I really have no knowledge of Cages. I also am asking because I am 6'4" and 290lbs. The car is a little tight already so a cage would make it real tight!

i believe the top of the cage and side have to be at least 5 inchs from your head. and if its an aftermarket seat it has to be fixed to the cage as well.

im on stock seats. i just figured id be good. idk. lol.

Main reason i stated that is due to the regs for the location of the swing-outs relative to the location of the main hoop.

Basically the clevis (if that's the style of swing-out you prefer) must be w/in 8 inches of the upright portion of the main hoop bar and also the a-pillar bar (in a full cage)

So if you sit anywhere near i do (5'11") than the main hoop will be behind the B-pillar technically not allowing you to put the clevis w/in 8" and still allow you to swing the bar out like a "door"

Main reason i mentioned the head and bar location is that technically you can bend the main hoop to get it to the right position up top whilst keeping the vertical portion that welds to the 6x6 plate far enough forward to allow the use of the swing-out and still keep it w/in 8" of said main hoop bar.

Hope that makes sense!

If you're tech guys are not so strict i'm sure w/ a 6 point "BAR" they may allow you to do the swing-outs further from 8" but that's why i said if you're going to spend the time and money might as well keep you on the right track w/ room to grow if that's the way you prefer to do it.

Trust me i know this first-hand!

Congrats on the new times Dan, awesome, especially on pump gas and such. With the power it made on our dyno when it was here the ET's/MPH add up about right though, very nice.

Your girlfriend cracked me up, I like the unedited video too.

About the cage..............damn I hate to see you ruin the car. If you really are going to do it you should contact Nick, his is the 700+ whp yellow/black striped EVO you've seen at our shop at the shootout. Check out what we did with his cage before you pull the trigger. IF I ever got hit with a retard hammer and decided to ruin my RS I'd do it like we did Nick's car.

Great job!

wow thanks dave for the complement. means a lot to me coming from you. i have a lot to learn though and i am trying really hard. yea my girl is learning the video thing and is doing well. she gets overly excited its cute. yea i remember nick. i actually did not know you did cages. i do not want to do this but im literally band from the track until i get a cage. and E-town wont even let me in the gate. there tech is ''to the book'' if i want to race i have to bring my 92 GMC pickup and i dont think they would like that because it leaks more trans fluid then i can put in it. HA. so i am trying to do the least ''6 pnt'' cage i have too. i i will PM nick and ask for pics. do you know his screen name? there is to many from your camp to remember. ha.

evolunchbox is nick's name here, not sure how often he comes to evom but you can get him on our forums. I can talk to you in detail about it.

We do not do cages but have a few shops we work with, I came up with what we did to Nick's car to not ruin it.

You could always run the car here twice a year We have real race tracks with common sense in Ohio.
