19th Annual DSM/EVO Shootout, presented by Buschur Racing

no. i have the spoolin up plugs. at first they would stay on. now they do not even work or hold on for anything. i want to go back to stock plugs and clips but i need a harness now because i threw out my damn stock plugs like a moron.

EDIT: I may of been confused here--did you have issues with both your ignition and fuel? I thought you said a fuel injector clip came off as well. Doesn't the Spoolin Up setup pertain to the COP?

Just got home from the shootout. I had a freakin blast like always. I heard there will be something "special" for next eyar, being its the 20th shootout!! Its supposed to be a 3 day event!!
I didnt get to meet too many people this year. I always get caught up in looking through all the cars lol. I did get a chance to meet Joey(Junk box evo). The car looks great and ran good, other than some breaking up he had mentioned. Stock coils FTW!
I was wanting to meet Devin and some other bigger names, but dont want to be a "bother" to them when they are working on their ****, so I tend to just keep my space most of the time. lol
Shootout was a blast though. Sat night there was a sobriety checkpoint a fire caught at the Comfort Inn in Sandusky! Crazy!! Cops came to the motel 6 a few times and just told us, if we were drinking, to go inside. No one did, but we calmed it down a bit.
Cant wait till next year for sure!!

Who's the CFM or CFT something car? White FWD talon drag prepped? Dude was doing pulls in the pits with people walking around. Idiots that end up ruining a good time. Just a thought David, what if we move the shootout to Saturday and run into the night? Make the schedule easier for all the guys breaking down.

Nice to read everyone's write-ups of the event sounds like a great time was had by all!
I try and mentally keep track of all the cars/guys that i know of from the forum(s) or that i try and read/follow and i keep wondering why i haven't heard anything about Emery's RICER
I'm assuming it was there and racing.
Also i heard that James Reese's Evo was there racing all the way from CA anyone know if he was able to break into the 9's?
I'm so jealous i'm going to make evey effort to be there next year

Packed event! Lots of breakage and a few rain delays made for a long day though.
Highlights and lowlights:
The people who stand out in my mind are the English Racing crew. Super friendly and have the cars and talent to back it up. Shep was the same. You talk to him and he doesnt shrug you off like youre bothering him, and his Talon was there for some shakedowns and it blistered down the track until he got squirly and had to let off. Looked like a 7 sec pass for sure. His GtR pulled an easy mid 9.
Spoke with Evodan, nice guy with a mean yellow Evo that pulled a 10.1. Map was there with the awesome FD4G63 Rx7 and pulled hard into the 8s I believe. Their EVO didnt fair so well and went home with a hole in the block. The Red 2G of Boostin Performance was gorgeous and pulled a high 8. Amazing car. The automatic DSMs were all amazing especially the ER Jeff Bush DSM that went high 8s and was super consistant.
Seen David Bushur verbally blow up on some Evo ESA dudes who had the wrong tires. Last year they were able to run Hoosier QTPs and this year I guess the rules changed to radial tires only. Well the guys didnt know that and David was trying to keep his cool, but after 5 seconds he just went off on these poor dudes who apparantly cant read the rules. Either way he should of went up and told them that calmly. Anyway that rule change killed the popular class and the fastest stock appearing was an STM Red turbo car that was mid 10s @ 133 I believe.
Seen some internet remote tuners who claim high HP that either went slow, couldnt drive, broke down, or all the above. Wont point them out as they are sponsors and I dont want to get reamed by the Mods on here. Mellon was not there as far as I could tell. Shame as hes the only remote tuner whos car actually goes fast..
The road race/ car show day was all right. The course looked like it was for beginners and after a while I just wanted to leave. Curt Brown was super nice and he faired well on the road course but his single disk couldnt handle the Drag racing portion and that clutch slipped like mad with the FP black. David Buschurs evo was a BEAST on the road course for his first couple laps then it looked like he took it easy. The slorice white evo was the most impressive, as well as a ringer evo X for the road coure action.
Good event and looks like attendance picked up this year.

The tire rule did NOT change, it has been a RADIAL tire class for EVO Stock Appearing since the class started. On top of that smart guy, I was trying to catch cars before the first round of qualifying to save them the hassle of being thrown out. I saw that guy on Hoosier DOT BIAS ply tires and told him nicely he wasn't allowed in the class. He said he tech'd the car on radials and then asked "some guy" if he could swap tires and was told yes. Well he knew the rules and still swapped. I told him to go change them and come back for the second round. HIS friend standing out side the window asked me if they would get to run the first round qualifier again and I said, "No." HE THEN SAID, "WHAT THE ****, THAT'S ****ING BULL****!!" That is when I went off. So get your facts straight before trying to make ME out to be the *******.
Also, as the day went on, on the AUTOCROSS course (road course is different, look on youtube for examples maybe) I got faster and posted my fastest time the very last run of the day....

Sometimes you got to be harsh to get the point through to people.
So, I have heard of something "special" for the 20th shootout next year, Dave. Anything in mind? I already cant wait till next year!

James Reese was there, yes, we put the car together for him the week before. He dyno'd 699 on our dyno Friday before the event. Running on radials he ran a 10.1 at 144, I believe that was his best. I am sure he'd have gone well into the 9's but the clutch gave up on him and was slipping horribly.
Nick A., man that final round was a killer! I was sitting in the stands when I saw you deep stage by accident, then I saw you backing up and hoped you were only going an inch! That red light from backing out to re-stage was heart breaking. You lost to a great guy though!
I was a lot of ignition problems this weekend too. One of which was on James Reese's car..........it was gratifying to see him put the stock coils/wires back on the car after I suggested it and see it run perfectly all weekend at 40+ psi like that.
The only reason COP's exist for the EVO's in the first place was because the AEM EMS wouldn't fire the cars in the beginning. If you are running a stock ECU, you should be running a stock ignition and good fresh stock plug wires, hard to beat them. Haltech is the same way, fires those stock coils/wires like a dream!

I wasn't being harsh, I was being very polite and trying to save guys running three qualifiers and then getting booted OUT during Peer Tech. Then I got cussed out for asking them to change tires. Then it got harsh, pure and simple.
Yes, for the 20th the event will become a full three day event, that will be the major change.
I'd suggest for you guys complaining about driving times and travel to take an extra day of vacation so you can actually relax and enjoy the event. There were people here from Iceland, Aruba, Florida, California, Canada, Washington, Oregon etc. If they can enjoy the entire event and drive/fly back it's possible for everyone!

Impossible. Saturday is Norwalk's normal points meet and it's not able to be moved. We can run as late as need be Sunday's to get the race in. The guy with the white FWD doing pulls in the pits had his *** chewed OUT by me when I saw that crap. He was with Procco's crew, Procco's car destroyed an engine.
I hoped you had seen the guy because 5 minutes before that I was walking behind you and your wife heading that direction. My wife was 5 feet from walking out in front of him on his return pass and letting him have it. Unnecessary and dangerous. We both appreciate you taking car of it!

Okay. It was just a thought I had while we were there. Drags under the lights can be a good time.

Yes, the guy was out of control dangerous, believe me, I let him have it. Guys like that aren't even welcome back, he can stay in Florida next time. He's lucky he didn't kill someone in the pits. He tried to tell me he went down to the end where nobody was. The place was packed from the front gate to the staging lanes and on top of that he made a return run on the even more crowded side! I was PISSED off when I approached him.
I will say other than him and the DOT tire guys in the staging lanes, this weekend was flawless. I hate being the authority at the event but it's my responsibility.
