How/To Quartermaster Launch
How/To Quartermaster Launch
I wanted to start a thread for people including myself wanting to know how to launch with QT twin disk at the drag strip. Now the way I am about to describe is how I launched at the starting line getting on to a road course (no drag events yet) and I would also like to hear from other people how the launch for the 1/4 mile. Please list engine displacement/turbo size, drivetrain mods, wheel HP/tq, 1/4 mile times if available.
Engine/turbo: Fully Built 2.0 LR, HTA 3582
Drivtrain: Urathane Mounts engine & rear diff, redline shockproof.
HP/tq: 630/500
1/4: N/A (new set up but will find out soon.)
For me the easyest way I have found to launch is 2step to 6k rpm, release the clutch finding that spot where it starts to grap but just slips a little bit and gradually release while accelarating and shift to 2nd at 8500.

To take some of the guess work out of this...
I really just want to do one good pass because is i am not about to do all the BS safety equipment that is required for the NHRA drag strips around my area so I will probably get kicked off the track on my first sub 11 pass.

I could see if your going for some crazy world record, and you only get one chance at it yadda yadda then I might consider that device. But to me, thats 75% of the fun is launching the car. There's no real way to explain how to launch a twin/triple. It takes experience, and it depends on if your clutch is adjusted properly/where it engages.
All comes down to skills. Either you got it or you don't. Don't drop it whatever you do because you will break something.

I've had lots of experience on launching the QM. I ran it in my Eclipse for over 3 years and more then a year in my Evo. This is what I’ve learned
Launch RPM is all depend on your turbos peak torque. For my GT3076R I’m launching the car at 5500.
-You want to use the e-brake to hold the car at the line.
-Bring the clutch to the friction point. At this point the car should want to move forward.
-When you are ready to launch you should engage the clutch a little more so the driveline is preloaded.
-Start to slowly, and I mean slowly walk off the clutch and pause at the top. The best way to describe this, it’s like you are getting a car moving from a stop. You don’t release the clutch till the car is moving. Same thing goes with launching the car.
-After clearing the 60ft you should be off the clutch ready to shoot into second.
If this is done right this should feel very smooth and violently fast.
