wrx 6sp vs evo?

is a wrx with a sti 6sp up pipe and turbo back good enough to hang with an evo? If it were to lose against to an evo how bad (in meanings of car lengths) would it be? thanks alot guys..

well STi is more of a dragger so for stock sti vs stock evo, stock sti would have an edge in dragging if the drivers' skills were the same...

if u lose to an evo, it just means either
1. evo was better tuned
2. ur driving was inferior to evo's

An otherwise stock WRX with an STi tranny will be slower than with the stock trans to 60 mph, and probably slower in the 1/4 as well.

its actually my buddys wrx..he has made his decision and is getting the jdm sti tranny.. I'm not familiar with subarus but he said its a five speed with short ratios..i told him isnt that bad cause his fifth at 5k is at 80mph..he said he was going to get his stuff tuned to so his red line is a little higher..well just updating..later..

6spd = better for daily driving
5spd = better for racing

Let me chime in on this since I am familiar with wrx modifications. The 6 speed is a little heavier and you will have to shift more to get up to speed. The turboback and uppipe without engine management will yield you about 20-25 horsepower over stock max, so I would say no you will not hang with a stock evo. With engine management it would be closer. Let me put it this way. I drove a stock evo and my wrx at stage2 - (turboback, uppipe and reflash) felt almost identical, but I was driving the evo on 91 octane which is the highest available here, so that also hurts the evo.

I agree with fre, a wrx(non-STi) with a six speed tranny and very minor mods shouldnt be able to keep up with a stock evo. The wrx owner will need to add a few parts and have the car tuned.

So is it the 5MT(Version 5 Type RA) or 6MT?
The 5MT would be alot of fun but sorry WRXs need major work to be fast

Depending on the brand, I believe the wrx should be pushing ard 250 crank.

Compare that to the EVO's 271 hp, I would say there's no way the 6SP WRX + UP + TBE can beat a Stock EVO8.

Unless of course the EVO8's pilot sucks big time.

You will need a new clutch in order to really drag race your Evo.
