Exclamation launch

I need to know how i should launch my evo. I have been told to slip the clutch and to dump it. I launch around 5-6 rpms and all i do i bullk down. can someone tell me what im doin wrong. I have launched the car right a couple of times when i raced a srt-4 and a mustang cobra and i suck them both the hell up.

I had some sucess dumping at as low as 4.5k rpm a few months ago, but last week I tried to dump at 5.5k rpm and everytime the clutch slipped like hell. The clutch drives very well in normal condition so I don't think I should replace it just yet.

if you "bulk down" or rather bog at start, its because you arent smooth with the clutch and gas pedal.... if you clutch out too quickly or not enough gas, your rpm is going to drop too low and your going to bog.... if you get the timing right, you can launch off fairly smoothly... i personally wont dump the clutch past 3k rpms, our clutch is so weak :P

Well, what's worse, dumping the clutch at 5k or slipping at 3k??? I would say that slipping is worse for the clutch, but that's my opinion. I would rather dump the clutch.

you dump your clutch. i'll keep my transmission. a clutch is a tad bit easier/cheaper to replace. just my opinion.

^^ exactly. don't be overconfident about warranty issues. especially when it's something as expensive as the tranny. mitsu isn't going to be eager to fix that. i say get a couple of mods, and then it'll be just as fast from a roll as it would be now with a launch. i've had my evo 8 months and i've only launched it maybe 5 times at most. But believe me, I still have fun with it

BTW......there are endless threads about this already. please try a search

So you are advocating slipping clutch right?

Actually, the launch isn't as important to me anyways. I autocross and don't drag race. The launch in an autocross isn't nearly as important because the starting timer isn't until 20ft after the start. My car will be up to full power and boost within 20ft regardless of how hard I launch it.

when the needle gets close to the number 8. Grab the wheel at 9 and 3 and let her rip.

I will slip my clutch any day rather then dump it. I have put another clutch in the car and if I have to do it again I will, I would rather have a good clutch that will slip at first and the hook up hard so that the drivetrain is loaded in a more gradual fasion. You are a lot less likely to break the really expensive parts this way. I have an ACT clutch in right now and it fits the bill perfectly. It slips a bit a first and then locks down and you are off.

press the clutch....de press i little bit until you start hitting the friction point.......pulse the gas 2 times at 5 grand........let go of the clutch fast but smoothly while you do that make sure you are letting go as much clutch as u are putting gas. If you do it too slow you will smell clutch big time, and if you do it too quick you will bog. It takes practice so good luck
