Over here is Australia, we have a class of roadracing called "GTPerformance", which are standard cars with the exception of suspension , slicks and ecu freedoms. There are quite a few Lancer Evo 5s and 6s racing.A friend of mine races a Evo 6, and when he launches, he drops the clutch at 6800rpm.

The whole driveline is pretty strong in the Evos , unlike the Wrx which is quite fragile. I have some articles on highly modified Evos , which still run standard drivetrain other than clutch. Try doing that without a very expensive "dogbox" in a REX.

6800 is a little high for the standard evo clutch... I bet he can smell it for ages after a launch like that. On my standard E6 GSR I launch at 3000-3500, and that still isn't too kind to the clutch (but it is in boost ).
The standard clutch is only rated to around 320 brake anyway, for serious dragging you want at least a good twin-plate unless you have a brace of spares in the van...
An abortive attempt at launching beyond 4000 left the clutch spinning like mad and the car not moving for seconds... took 5 minutes for the smoky clutch smell to go away even with all the windows open and cruising at 70mph...

The box is one of the strong points on the Evo... I don't know what torque it's rated to, but it wouldn't surprise me if it'll stand up to 350lb/ft or more before it finally gives up the ghost.
I know some of the UK Evo's are pushing 300+lb/ft and I don't think any of them have had to do more than uprate the clutch, the rest of the transmission seems up to the job

I drag race my Galant VR4 here in the states (east coast). I usually leave the line at 5k. I use a studder box to build boost then side step the clutch. My 60' times are either 1.58 to 1.60 . I use a 2600 lb clutch from Advance Clutch Tech located in Ca. I holds the power. My car was dyno'd at 400hp to the wheels and 386 lb of torque . My best time is 11.47 @ 119 mph. Im sure the guys overseas can get better clutched then we use here.

The EVO standard clutch is real crap ... with the PROSPEED 360bhp kit I first used a singleplate racingclutch ... it did the job for about 8000km then both the clutch and the flywheel gave up ... After that I´ve been using a HKS Twin-Plate clutch with a stronger flywheel which works really good ... I´ve been racing at the dragstrip the whole summer and done approx. 3-400 starts just sidestepping the clutch at 5800rpm ... and I´ve had no problems with the car at all ... the standard transmission will do the job up to about 500-550bhp ...
In the Prospeed SuperLemon (650bhp+) we will use this:
HKS Twin-Plate clutch
Fully adjustable KAAZ-differentials (front-center-rear)
5-speed Dog-Box Gearbox
Best Regards
