this was a shock to me last week, i went wit a couple friends to go watch "illegal" races, just to go, and there were over 100 people there wit theyre rice burners, but they had a 03 mustang svt, about to race an old *** eagle talon, and the mustang had a 2 car lead, they started to race and the talon smoked the mustang!! i was shocked! i dont know alot about engines so i have no idea what he had in there, i dont think it was nos, what do you think?

Probably just a GS-T running high boost that couldn't grip its tires at low speeds. FWD launches are very difficult to keep up to par with RWD because it's difficult to get going quickly when pulling the car as opposed to pushing it. DSM's have been known to pull stunts like that when properly tuned.

I know of a Talon Tsi awd that gave a TA an 8 car lead. From the launch the Talon came back by like half of that and ended up beating the TA. He supposedly had a 20G turbo running somewhere in the high 20's boost. Does that sound right?

The '03 SVT Cobra has an Eaton Blower on it. They come stock with 390hp+(which reportedly is underrated, they are dyno'ing stock 400-425). With a pulley, exhaust, intake and chip(all for under $1500) you are putting easily 500hp+ to the crank and running mid to high 11's in the quarter mile. They are very, very fast cars. Stock they are running anywhere from 12.5 - 13.5(depending on driver and track conditions). Stock against stock, the Cobra will beat the Talon.

As for the Talon beating it in this particular race, I suppose anything is possible on any given day. Those older DSM's, if tuned properly can really pack a punch. I have seen plenty of 11 second DSM's at the track. My bet is the Cobra was stock, or near stock, had a ****ty driver and probably spun at the line. The Talon is more than likely heavily modded, with an experienced driver and got a huge jump at the line due to AWD.

Keep in mind that evolutionm.net does not support nor condone illegal street racing. Better that it is taken to the track.(where I go)

It's not hard to belive at all. $15k-$2k in a DSM Turbo, and your'e kickin' out at least 350hp. (and that's with a 16g Turbo) Drop in a 20g, and mustangs become a staple diet. An Eagle Talon, Mitsu eclipse, Plymouth Laser, 90-91 Galant vr-4 (predisesor (spl?) to the evo) and dodge colt turbo are perfect under $3k cars to hop-up inexpensivly to spank nearly anything on the road!

The thing that struck me as odd was that the Talon was 2 lengths. That lead me to believe its launch wasn't as quick, but it caught up...characteristic of what I've seen, read and heard with the GS-T's...but did Eagle even make FWD TC'd Talons? I guess it also depends whether they LAUNCHED 2 car lengths apart or whether the Mustang took a 2 car lead...the latter is how I read it originally.
Yeah...forgot about the streetracing thing.
I can't imagine ever wanting to street race with Raceway Park so close by. Fun place.

My car before this one was a '92 Eclipse GSX, I put over $3k into the engine, main being the HKS turbo upgrade. Z28s GTs TAs were nothing. The worst whooping I got was from a single turbo conversion Supra w/ 125 shot Nitrous. We did a 70 punch, make a short story shorter HKS hiper exhaust doesn't taste good.

Yeah, I just lost a long response to that post, but basically it said Buschur Racing details how to build up to a 9sec 1g DSM in a recent issue of (I think) DRAG magazine. At any rate, I think it's cheaper than you'd think if you can do a lot of the labor yourself.

I think what makes it impressive is that it was an SVT Cobra though. Oodles of torque and a beast of a car to begin with. Even stock it should take all but the fairly heavily built 1g's (assuming equal drivers).

I had a friend with a 12 sec 1g GS-T and a 1g TSi who sold them both for an '02 Mustang GT. The GS-T was much faster than his current Mustang, and I don't think he put more than 10g's into it by a long shot. Beating a normal Stang doesn't strike me as impressive, but an SVT Cobra takes a bit of doing.

EDIT: Especially with a handicap.

It's always impressive to me when a four cylinder beats a car with an engine twice its size, almost 3 times in some cases. Thats just me though.

Eagle Talons came in FWD non-TC, TC FWD and TC AWD. Christler stopped producing them in 1997.

just in québec which is small, a couple of DSM runs in the 11s and 12s, check this link: http://www.montrealracing.com/forums...threadid=15837
old DSM now are pretty cheap and you can find a couple of performance parts easily, imagine you can have a DSM turbo AWD with perf parts for less than a brand new Lancer OZ-rally...
