1st trip to the track in my stock evo

Man - AWD is completely different. I have always dragged RWD. Launching right is definatly the key. Here are my times 1/8 mile track only. 87 degrees 85% humidity
500ft elevation. driver weighs 290lbs (*** i am going on a dang diet!) shifting at 6600 rpm

Run 1 - 4000 rpm slip the clutch
60 - 2.213
1/8 - 9.542
mph - 73.51 blows - not the way to launch

run 2 - 5500 dump the clutch
60 - 1.962
1/8 - 8.944
mph - 78.12 - better but not great

run 3 5000 slipin the clutch fast
60 - 1.894
1/8 - 8.900
mph - 78.16

run 4 6000 slipin fast quicker shifts
60 - 1.841
1/8 - 8.759
mph - 78.26 much better

just wanted some baselines before the modfest begins. the last 2 runs put me in the 13.6-7 area. not to bad for a stock ride with a fatty at the wheel.

Why are you short shifting the car at 6,600 RPM?

Keith

PS: Best I managed in the 1/8 stock was 9.035 @ 77.82 on a low 14 sec 1/4 mile pass. The pain of a 1.930 60' time is evident in that run At least you should be running 13's stock unlike my car.

first time out, just trying to learn the car. when it hits 6600 i shift, which means including reaction time, i am probably hitting it at 6800. where is everyone else shifting a stock car at?

From what I understand most shift right at redline, our valve train is good for 8,000 RPM with HKS 272 cams, so there is no danger from going to redline with the stock cams

Looking at my stock dyno sheet (dynapack AWD dyno) power went above 220 HP at 5000 RPM with a peak of 232 at 6250 RPM and was still above 220 HP at 7,000 RPM where we ended the pull.

I thought it was better to shift before redline?

Great times by the way wiz, it seems your a very fast learner and that's very good.

When I raced my stock EVO 3 weeks ago, I experimented with my shift points. I would run my best ET and MPH shifting between 6900 to 7000 RPM in each gear. If I shifted any higher, I would run slower. My best 1/4 mile run that day was a 13.81 and 100 MPH was my best trap speed. My best 1/8 was a 8.80 and a best MPH of 79.13. This was done on 91 octane with bad 2.00 to 2.20 60 foots. So you are doing pretty good yourself, you may want to shift a little higher and experiment with different shift points. Those guys with cams will usually have to shift higher because they are making more power in the upper RPM range. Good luck with your racing.

This is why I looked at my stock dyno sheet before opening my mouth If power isn't falling off significantly you do best by holding onto the lower gear ratio as long as possible. The dyno operator only ran up to the 7,000 RPM redline so I don't know how soon power starts droping off significantly on a stock EVO... but I suspect it is very soon after redline based on EvoTio's coments
