Yeah... doesn't the m5 engine have ~400hp? Was he saying @ the wheels? If it's an straight up M3, you should take it with a good launch (practice!). If it really is an m5 engine in an m3 (!?!?!?!?) then I'd watch out. Like people mentioned above, if you just have the bolt ons without tuning, you're probably sunk.

yeah on a roll he may get you but if you are good at launching... you should beat him.. he will be scrambling for traction while you shoot... only thing is if you want to win you have to drop the clutch at 4k rpms atleast

I'd run 22-23 psi of boost on 100 octane since you still have the stock head studs. If you had some sort of fuel and timing control, you'd be able to run leaner a/f's and more timing to optimize your race gas.

E36's in this country never had the 320HP motor, they came with the 240HP ones. If it's the old M3 motor, then you should be ok, but ff he did indeed throw an E46 motor in there, then you better pray to God he cannot drive. With a good launch he's way in the 13's. Is he a good driver? Are you on stock boost? Should be a good race. Personally my money's on the M3.

a tank of race gas, 24 psi. U will beat him

EDIT: I did beat a E46 M3 (probably stock) top end without a boost controller before. We were neck to neck though.

it could be the 3.8!

This is out of a e34 M5s not the 400hp V8 out of the e39 M5, well it could be but I've seen that swap only once, while the other swap is common. The 3.8 out of the M5 makes 347Hp and 295 ft-lb stock.

If hes modded, esp if hes turbo, you're screwed, but if its reliativly stock you should have him. Make him pop his hood, these motors are VERY popular with turbo people in europe, this one make over 1000hp and runs under 10 sec

No one has ever swaped a S54(new M3) motor into a e36 that I know of. Fly-by wire throttle and stuff is too complicated when you keep in mind the Evo(ironic name) e36 M3 made 321HP in europe
