I redline almost every gear except when cruising. Now you all know my secret to wasting gas!

Ideally you want to shift just before the rev limited cuts power when racing. If you're not a very slow shifter then it should put you right back in the meat of the powerband when you upshift. For daily driving...whatever works.

Run to 3k if you're doing normal city driving, pop all the way to 5k. As for racing, are you running tracks or are you just trying to be Johnny Streetracer?

I think that the power drops off about 500 RPMs before redline.
As for it being bad for your engine, my dad has a saying. The biggest killer of power and engines down the road is RPMs. It's unavoidable, and it's a tradeoff you have to decide about.

Power drops off as in the dyno curve? I think you're right, but if you run the revs just slightly longer (than redline...maybe 100rpms) it'll drop you in a meatier part of the powerband in the next gear. At least that's been my experience.
