You should definitely be off the gas until you're in the next gear and the clutch has grabbed. Shifting on the throttle is called "power shifting" and it's rough on drivetrain. (It'll void your warranty.)

There should be no lurch on a proper upshift--or downshift, for that matter, but that's a different lesson.

And the fix is not to slip the clutch!

 

yeh, ever since I got my ACT in, it's really hard to shift smoothly under low rpm or high rpm.

It ""thunks"" so hard, it'll scare people who's not used to it.

counter weighted shift knob does help shift easier and a lot more smoother....

 

well somebody told me that if i shift like that, i would destroy my drivetrain in no time. I've been practicing, but still the same, sometimes i get it, but sometimes i don't, and when i do get it i feel like i'm shifting slow. How is rev matching again?

There's a couple of ways to shift, but i can gaurentee you the problem is you arent bringing the clutch out smooth and slow.

 

You do the RPM-matiching BY lifting off the gas! In the time you need to move the stick to second gear, however short, the revs will have dropped enough for the clutch to connect smoothly, with practise perfectly... And there is no bump, trust me.
