Shifting issues: Hard to pull out of gear (or doesn't)
Shifting issues: Hard to pull out of gear (or doesn't)
Although I don't know much about how a transmission works, I've shifted enough of them to know mine doesn't feel right anymore...
My car (see specs below) got my attention last week when it took more effort than usual to pull it out of gear (specifically, out of 2nd gear when coasting to a stop, 3rd gives me a little extra resistance too). Shifting up through the gears feels normal. Pulling the car out of gear when coasting (no gas) requires some effort or I've started bumping the RPMs and waiting for the gear to come out with normal effort. My problem is like this or this but I'm pretty sure I don't have the Exedy twin clutch they have.
Well, yesterday something else started happening… after engine braking I pushed the clutch in and the RPMs did not drop to idle but stayed glued to my relative road speed.
So after reading and talking to people I have either 1) bad clutch, overly worn clutch that needs replacement or 2) a clutch pedal that needs adjustment suddenly…
THOUGHTS?
Oh, I did a clutch drag test and the car did not creep forward.

Car Specs:
2003 Evo 8 with 110k miles
460 bhp on e85 at 22 psi
I've owned the car for almost a year
3rd owner, previous owners kept minimal records
Last owner had a new clutch put in 5 years ago but I don't know what brand/model other than I can see it is yellow from peeking in the bell housing
Several bolt-ons: intake, exhaust, bigger injectors
From what I can tell, stock internals

Its either bad clutch or throwout bearing. Stop driving the car and get it towed to a shop that specialize in the specific car. If the transmission was bad it would stay stuck in gear period.
