Launching AWD
Launching AWD
I have Offically Passed My Breaking period.. Resisiting all temptation except for redlinging it once.. But never the Less i am still proud.. *Steps up to take a bow!!!.. *CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP.... My Question is how to Launch an AWD!!! i tried twice already.. First I drop the clutch while I held the RPM at 3K the car bogged down.. The second time i help it at 5k and slipped the clutch...
big no no.. I smoked my clutch.. i could smell it.. ewww can anyone give me a CLUE!!! bI dont' want to do hardcore launches yet.. but give me an idea at least how to Launch this MOnster!!!

You can launch at 3k but you just have to release the clutch slowly so it won't bog. Meaning you won't be winning any races this way.

Too slow will kill your clutch. Need to be done just right. AWD car is a pain to launch. I had some experience with a WRX on the 1/4mile track but practice makes perfect.

Have you tried heavy acceleration from idle? The car bogs until it reaches past the 3K mark. Why you ask? Cuz it's turbocharged. Of course it bogged at a 3K drop. The turbo isn't even spooled up yet so you have no power when you release the clutch. I'm kind of surprised you smelt the clutch burning from slipping it a little. Maybe you did it for too long. To avoid the bog you have to keep the rev range in the power band. You have to keep the turbo spooled when you drop the clutch or slip it. I think the best launches will come from a 5500 -6000K drop but I'm going to test out a little slip from 5500 as well. A tip I got from a friend to help the turbo spool quicker for launching is to pump it. I mean blip the throttle between 5500-6000K when you're at the staging lights until launch. It helped out my 60' times a little bit once I got the hang of it.

You gotta let it slip some, if not, the hard jolt from the initial contact can eventually hurt you... Bring it up to about 6rpm's let it out quick, about 85 %... then after you got a good roll going let it out the rest of the way and get ready for a quick shift to second... this usually gives me 1.7-1.8 second 60ft times... We'll see what the EVO can put out...

Don't dump your clutch unless you want something to break!
Learn to feather the clutch, This will dramatically reduce the risk of catastraphic failure!
Dumping your clutch will stop engine momentum.
Momentum is your friend.
Which would you rather have happen, a little clutch wear or twist your drivetrain to pieces?
If you need that extra .001 second, take a dump before you race.
Just listen to what everyone is saying. You will get a huge surge forward if you launch properly in the power band with a little clutch slip above 5K. Everyone is also correct in that clutch dumps are hard on your car. If you don't want to break anything slip it. I was just answering your question as to what will be the fastest launch which I believe a dump with minimal slip will garner. The rule of thumb is to slip until it grips.
Sorry to break it to you guys, but theres No other way....
Tack her up 5-5500RPM and dump the clutch or no serious launch at all. It's the nature of the beast. You try feathering your clutch at that high an RPM and you'll go smoke your clutch out in less then 2 months.
Think of it as a precision clutch dump if there ever was one.... Thats what you want to do. It's all about timing....
I think thats what everyone is trying to say.
