I can attest to the "clunk" when i first banged third and heard that i thought i blew the rear diff out. glad i found this thread and that it is a normal occurance. phhewww. i guess i'll be a lil easier of the clutch haha

Honestly, this is a problem Mitsu has never addressed properly and has been an issue since 1st gen DSMs

i have the same problem and i took it to the dealer and they said they'll replace my driveshaft for me

got the same problem in the X too. under firm acceleration in second. push the clutch in to shift to third and thump! i've noticed that if i rev it out past where the power lessens like 6000rpm (no tune yet ) i don't get the thump but it is annoying when you want to "hit it" but not "redline hittin it"

Tried changing my driving too, it didnt help, but my wrx I had before my evo and my friends S4 all did it. Just gonna pick up some bushings and see what happens.

I get this too. Got told that it won't cause any damage. My car is on adjusties and was set pretty low, sacked actually, by the previous owner. I also got told if I lift it up a bit that it will help.

i just baught my evo and didnt notice untill actually getting on it and its in the rear i thought it might be the exhaust baging but i guessed wrong if anyone wants to give me some more information please feel free!!!

its the rear diff. put stiffer bushings in the rear diff mounts.

i get a loud clunk too, like everyone else i, when i shift slower the noise doesn't happen, but when i shift fast the clink noise happens
I noticed only sometimes when i shift differently the clunk doesn't happen when i shift fast.
if anyone knows how to shift fast without the clunk can you p;lease help me!!!! it doesn't sound healthy thanks

I'd bet the diff bushings or the engine/tranny mounts are worn and allowing excessive play. First hand experience I wish I didn't have.
