Quick Turning, Tight Radius?
Have you guys ever been in a situation where you need to make a quick turn in a two-lane road, and doing a 3-point turn is NOT the best option but that's the only away around it? How do you guys get around the fact the Evo doesn't have the greatest turning radius? I have heard some clutch-kick in the midst of turning, (mostly in semi-wet or wet conditions) to help rotate the car -obviously doesn't sound like the easiest thing on your driveline, but is it the only way? Opinions? Discuss..
Haha... wow, there should DEFINITELY be a disclamer on this thread somewhere... the handbrake will work a lot better than a clutch kick in an AWD car, and specifically the Evo. Make sure you A) put the clutch in, and B) push the brake. Then WITH THE HANDBRAKE STILL SLIGHTLY CLICKED UP, and with the car in the appropriate gear, let out the clutch and mash the gas, assuming you're facing the right direction. The ACD (also assuming you have one) will remain unlocked and you should get a healthy dose of RWD action for a second... fun stuff, and yes, best in wet. Get your handbrake tightened as well, the stock configuration isn't made to lock the wheels as much as it is made to keep them locked from a stop.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Instead of:
-swing the wheel
-yank the handbrake
-dip the clutch
-release the handbrake
-power out (release the clutch)
for AWD it would probably be:
-dip the clutch
-swing the wheel
-yank the handbrake
-release the handbrake
-power out (release the clutch)

I've seen your posts on bimmerforums and have talked to you there. I didn't know you had a 510! -awesome little cars.

Sorry to plug another forum here, guys... where were we?
Yeah, I'm much better with faces than names... I DO have a 510, I've had 2 of them. My first one was a mostly-restored '68 Sedan in this ugly green... loved that car, so I didn't want to tear into it as an extreme project. So I sold the thing for $2k more than I bought it, and bought myself a new one. I'm aiming for sub-2000lb overall weight, 3" track width increase on all 4 corners, and 400whp. Should be a good project... you can check out some of the pictures over at my flickr account (www.flickr.com/photos/likesitsideways/sets ... Ziggums was my old 510, the Ferveo project is my new one)... we should share photos sometime, the few I've seen of you driving look interesting to say the least!

So speed up in low gear, release gas pedal (whilst in gear -engine brake decel), clutch in, turn wheel, hand-brake up (car rotates), hand-brake down, clutch out and accelerate in gear? Sound right?
Buy a new car? Haha, U-turns in the Porsche, and turning in general is wonderful compared to the Evo... But yeah, basically thats how I would do it... If you have a decent amount of power you should be able to power steer (either decent amount of power or crap tires) Its how I always did it. Either that, or go somewhere where you can 3-point... If you're on some back country farm road you probably have plenty of dirt space... otherwise... why can't you do a 3-pt? Too slow at doing 3-pointers? You probably shouldn't try drifting it then
