Launch posts...
I cry a little every time someone posts another launch topic. Launching is WAY overrated unless you've got the money to rebuilt your car every 10,000 miles. I'm way over the "Driving Technique" section FILLED with 2-step and launching titles. There's not a WHOLE lot of "technique" involved here, maybe there should be one major launch/2-step/car self-destruction thread and everyone just calls it a day.
End of discussion.

I'm just amazed how many NEW threads people put on about random crap about launching. I just don't understand how such a ridiculous skill set can require so many separate topics. This is why there should be a just a generic "Launch Thread" where everyone can post whatever they want in regards to this feat of "skill"-- if its your car exploding or simply trying to figure out how to let out the clutch, it should be in there.
Just playing Devil's Addvocate here but maybe not all of the members of EvoM are professional drivers, or work for a major company like WORKS, or get the chance to drive BMW touring cars. Maybe a majority of them are youger kids who get a kick and a rush out of their car accelerating very quickly from a stop. Maybe to them learning how to do that smoothly and without bogging is an accomplishment. I'm gonna bet most owners on here are under 25 and NOT professional drivers. They are daily drivers that like to make their commute less boring. But I could be totally wrong. This is just a guess too but you don't like drag racing do you.
...nope... drag racing is neat and all, but its a mechanic's race. I don't mean to try to get in the way of anybody's fun. I love the rush of acceleration just as much as anyone else, I'm just annoyed by looking through all the new threads and seeing the same general topic. There's a drag racing topic in the same area on the forum which is where I would assume the redundant launch posts would be placed because there's not a whole lot of "Driving Technique" that goes into dropping the clutch.
Please don't think I'm making fun of anybody, I just know how destructive launching is and it makes me laugh a little to see something like that generate so much hype on the same forum.

Launching is also used in AutoX. I know our school has AutoX from a dig and also a Drag club.
And to some people launching isnt just dropping the clutch, thats when it gets very expensive. At least people want to learn to do it the right way since there are many variables that affect Trent drives Daves car instead of Dave driving it! Trent is one of the best drivers out there! I am also hoping he'll run my car a couple times when I get it back and get me that 9 second pass Im hoping for!

Trending Topics
did it really make you so angry that somebody just wanted to know how to launch a car that you went and made a thread just to vent?
You have wasted your own time, as well as mine for even bothering to post!

Terribly sorry.
To conclude (again)...
I think there should be 1 (one) main thread, in "Driving Techniques" or "Drag Racing" that explains launching. The fact that at one time there were 4 (four) launch threads IN A ROW in the Driving Technique section just seemed a little off.
Sorry to take 30 seconds out of your obviously very important day.
I do apologize and retract my comment about how little technique there is in launching. Nobody though can argue that it needs dozens of redundant threads and posts for the same skill set (which is limited, BTW). People can argue with me all day long on how much skill it takes to drag race, and most of the time, I'll probably agree. But as soon as someone tells me that it takes as much talent (or requires as much discussion) as road racing, I'll disagree and fight it pretty passionately. Drag racing is what road racers do in between turns.

Agreed there should just be one main thread. People are just really scared with all of the horror stories they read about breaking their cars, so they all want to post their own threads without searching.
many people are just nervous about blowing their transfer case and such and would like some advice. Not everyone has the money for repairs.
Reminds me of a story:I had a friend with a ~400whp audi hillclimb car. He took it to the local drag races one night just for kicks. Lots of kids flocked to the car and asked how fast it was. They were all dissappointed when it ran ____ (sorry, can't remember that detail), and found out it was only running 20psi. They all wanted him to turn up the boost to see what it would do, and the driver explained it was meant for hillclimbs....blank stare from the crowd...then he says, its built for Pikes Peak...you know, 156 turns...still blank stares...so he says 'think of it as doing 156 drag races in a row with no break'...then everyones eyes lighted up.
