I've only launched my car 4 times. 3 out of the 4 times I smelled clutch. The two times I launched it pretty darn well I smelled clutch also. I just revved it to 5500 in first, let the clutch out slow and once the car started moving I let it out all the way quickly but steadily and it was like a rubber band taking off. Snapped me back pretty good. The smell went away after 2 hours though.

I have never tried to launch my car yet.I really want to do it but don't want to have to replace the clutch yet since these X clutches are so weak.I've had my car for 6 months now.The only thing that I've tried is brake boost on people.I brake boosted only a couple of times.

+1

I think it's just as fun destroying people from a roll. The X is surpisingly good at speed even with all the AWD drivetrain loss.

Ummm....flooring it is 5,500 rpm. It will stop there if you have the clutch in and in first gear. You won't be able to go higher than that if you tried.

you're not going to smoke too many people if you're still stock. unless you're talking civics and neons...even srt-4's and cobalts will eat us up on a roll....

Launching is simple.

Step 1: Stop

Step 2: Push in the clutch

Step 3: Put the car in first gear

Step 4: Let the clutch out to find where it engages and hold it just before that (it'll make it easier to slip/dump)

Step 5: Floor the gas, and hold it to the floor. You will start bouncing off the 2-step at 5000rpm and build around 10psi.

Step 6: DO NOT let off the gas pedal at ALL, slip out the clutch until you feel it grab, then let go.

Step 7: DO NOT let off of the gas pedal until you shift to 2nd gear. The gas pedal should be held to the floor from the beginning until you shift to 2nd.

Step 8: Continue shifting gears accordingly.

that's how i've always done it, and it was good enough to get me and my basically stock IX MR to 12.82 @ 107.41 with only a cat back, no tune, no other power adders, a boost leak, and a possibly slipping stock clutch.

I still launch at every autocross, and sometimes just for the hell of it. 146,000 miles, still no problems. i've gotten 70k+ out of every clutch i've had with plenty of launching and racing.

it's listed as 5k on both cars but some people in these forums say 5500 on the IX's and X's. it's 5000
