First Launch Atempt

Well tonight on my way home from dropping my GF off I decided to try to launch my car. So at a red light I tried a 3K launch and boged it. Second I tried a 4K lanuch slightly better but not exactly what I was looking for. So I drove for a little bit and right b4 i got home I tried a 5K launch.... I reved it up to 5K and slowly let the clutch out i mean SLOWLY..... I think I let it out too slow because it was almost out and the car was not moving..... I cooked the clutch pretty nice because it stunk to hell and now my garage smells like ***.... Any help or what I did wrong? I think my problem was letting the clutch out WAY to slow affraid of boging it.

Also 1 clutch cooking launch isn't going to kill my clutch is it.....?

1 launch is ok. I am very experienced in the clutch area because I have replaced 1. You need to let your clutch out faster. Also the higher rpm you drop the better the launch and the more damage to your clutch. Do not treat your evo like a rear wheel drive car. Since the tires do not spin easily the clutch is the next part to wear.

You've got basic idea...just try lower the rev difference. 1000rpm is much of jump to fine tune the sweet stop.

Yah I know what you mean by fine tune.... Sometimes I will even launch at a lower RPM 2500-3000 and I get a good launch from a red light... Seems like there is a certain point in the clutch engagment where you should have high revs I think i know what you mean..... Right when the clutch is about to be fully engaged seems to be the best time to rev it hard. Let me ask u this is the basic idea to leave the line with boost?

If you must do this on a stock clutch, then try this.

Sit still with the car in gear and clutch on the floor...

Rev to 5,000 rpm's and hold it there.

When you want to drop the hammer, first give the gas 3 blips. they should bring the rpm's to about 5500 each time. On the third blip, you will mash the gas all the way down and hold it there. Let the clutch out right as the rpm's hit 5500 on that third blip. Don't forget to shift before you bounce off fuel cut.

Kinda like a "blip, blip, blip/gone" if you can imagine that.

I strongly advise against clutch drops on the stock clutch/flywheet assembly.

Dropping off your GF and decided to have a little fun, huh? Must have been a kick *** night that called for a celebration on the drive home.

Much Better!!! Tonight on my way home from dropping my GF off I launched it again.... It workd like a charm this time. Reved it to 3,000 then as i slipped the clutch i gased it with the same pace as i slipped the clutch till it got to about 4,000 or 4,500 at about 3,500 I heard the turbo start spooling by 4K it was ready to fly.... Worked well... The key seems to be to gas it at the same rate that you are slipping the clutch then once u have the clutched fully ingaged then nail it.

I kind of got the hang of launching the car but I usually launch at 3K if racing other cars. 4K launching for practice. I dont think you really have to launch since other ppl are getting major wheel spin while u'll look like a slingshot. My 4K launch yielded me a 0-100kmph at 5.52 seconds with 3 ppl in car.

I usually slip mine at 6k and it comes out like a rocket! Just takes practice and you'll get it down.

Well I tried a 5K launch b4 and it didn't work out to well... Just burned the **** out of the clutch but then again I let the clutch out WAY too slow. The 3K working up to 4.5K seems to work for me no smelly clutch makes me feel better about not totally beating my car up..... I Can't afford a new clutch anytime soon..... The way I launched it tonight seemed to sling shot the car out of the hole pretty damn good. I know practice makes perfect but the clutch has a certain amount of launches in it and once it goes I will be **** out of luck..... So I try to keep my launches to a minimum!

Well, im not too sure, but everytime I slip the clutch, nothing happens. So I slip till engamgement with 3000rpm and then bring it up to 5000+ and dump clutch. I know its bad for clutch, but that is the only way I am getting a launch. There is minimal tire spin. WHen u smell rubber after a launch, isnt it from the tires? Cuz there is no rubber in the clutch.

The clutch is made of an organic compound and ......that IS what you are smelling. ITt would take a lot of wheel spin for you to smell the tires.
