what would happen if clutch dumped?
im planning to run my car and see my 1/4 times..i go there alot but with my integra..since my evo is broken in i want to run and see what i can hit..i always read about its better to slip or its better to dump..my buddy has a wrx and could launch his car by sliping really good..i know its possible with the evo's but what would happen if you brought it up to 4 or 5k and dump it..will the tires spin and bogg? im not familiar with awd launching..this is my main focus when i go to the tracks..the shifting part is easy but the launching is my main focus..thanks alot
There is a fine line between bog and wheel spin. If you drop at ~4K the car will bog real bad, then take off like a rocket; horrible for timeslips. If you drop over 5K you'll likely get some light wheel spin and be off. Unfortunately, by the time you reach the traps your car will stink of clutch.
Launching this car takes a lot of practice and is not at all easy. If you practice a lot your clutch will wear quickly. From eveyone I've talked to the best thing to do is run it to about 5K and do an aggressive slip (not quite drop, but close) and you'll get a good smooth launch and decent 60' times. But don't expect the clutch to last long no matter what if you running the quarter often.
Hope that helps.

thanks alot you guys...i guess i was just use to dumping my clutch in the integ..yeah i tried sliping it and boy is it hard..it just takes time and practice and by the time thats done i should be good...i just want to hit my 13.4 at the tracks..at least a high 13.4..like a 13.49..i just need to get my launches down..but thanks your guys for the input it helps..peace up
Your best bet if your gonna be track racing the evo is to just practice slipping until your clutch blows out. Then install a stage 1 or 2 aftermarket clutch system. I talked with a Mitsubishi rep for about 30 minutes about clutch wear with the evo. He gave it about 8-10,000 miles before your clutch will blow out if you drag it frequently. Depending on how much you do this it could go out as soon as 5,000 miles. Regardless, Stock clutches never did hit my "to keep" list. Just my opinion though.
launched my car for the first time tonight. It smells like ****. NOT COOL. Don't think i'll do it again for a long time but it was fun. It bogged at first but took off very strong. How much wear did I put on my clutch? How strong are they? What is the average time they last?
