Control Over Boost Seileniod

Al came to Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend and has been very busy!! After arriving late Friday night and staying up even later HE HAS CRACKED THE ECU FOR THE ELECTRIC SILENIOD!! He now has control over it allowing him to set the boost and virtually eliminate all boost taper. I let him use my Evo for the first "test run"!! My car went to 20 PSI of boost in 2nd and 3rd gear and held to 7,500 RPM!! It dropped less then a 1/4 PSI!! This is a very important mod because up until this weekend you HAD to buy a manual boost controller to have the consistent boost!! Let me tell you this, the car runs like Forest Gump on steroids and ver consistant!! I've put over 500 miles on it since the reflash and it is still holding boost!!

If you are looking to get a reflash anytime be sure to ask him about this option. He hasn't come up with a name to call it yet but it shouldn't be long!!

I know Al, I'm just having a bit of fun here. Having control of the stock boost solenoid has been done before and a long time ago - that's all. Please accept my apology for my comment since it seems to have taken away from your accomplishment which in truth is indeed a big deal.

What I am saying - is there is "control" and there is CONTROL. There are several differenet parameters to control - its figuring out which does which and how they work that is the key. When I see others using "pills" to control boost - I somehow think they have not yet figured out the whole picture. I am able to control the boost with no pills.

Yeah, the boost did not fall off that much. Very impressive. I personally would still want an MBC, but for those people out there that don't have one, this is the real deal. The boost only dropped about 1.5 psi from 20 psi not 1/4 psi

Having a MBC is still nice as you can raise the boost a bit higher when you get race gas or lower if you get some bad gas - etc

This is mostly cool for guys who want to maintain 100% warranty friendly operation or those racing SCCA auto cross stock class

Awesome. When the weather dries up you'll get my ECU in the mail. I have a buschur catback and the stock cat. You have a flash specifically for the buschur parts, right?

Doh! I had you flash my ECU two weeks ago. I guess I should have waited. ;-) I'd like to keep my warranty intact if possible, so I've been putting off installing the Hallman MBC I got from you.

Does this work on '05s as well? Will it be possible to get a reflash?

Thanks. Good work Al.

Al's boost control is pretty cool. He was really stoaked on the first morning of the Utah tuning trip. He came out and said he had a break through idea. Grabbed Braveheart's car which is nearly stock and put a base flash in with his new idea for boost control.

Went for a test drive and the thing screamed! No MBC, no pillls, no nothing. Al is using the factory EBC but now he has it dialed at about 20 psi with just around 1 psi of taper.

Al put this new style of flash on 3 different '03 cars this weekend and all of them ran like champs. It was cool because all the guys were looking to get MBC in the future, but now they don't need to.

Al also put it on 2 new '05 MR's and they were rockets as well.

Any boost control, whether electronic or manual or done with the factory ECU, is not allowed in SCCA Stock Class racing.
