He is completely correct. With the AFC you have no control over boost or timing, only A/F mixture. With a custom flash you can set the A/F as you can with the AFC, but you can also add/remove some timing advance and control boost; as well as eliminate the boost cut, raise your rev limiter, and get rid of your speed limiter.

You will definately gain both HP and torque by getting the custom tune over the AFC. And, as stated below, once this is completed you can custom tune the AFC for race fuel (as long as you have a wideband 02).

Good luck!

Your best bet would be a custom tune on pump gas.. then you could get custom settings on your safc for race gas..

Right now I've just got the mail in flash and safcII. I plan on using the safcII for race gas once I get a wideband.. and because the weather here changes so drastically (from hot/cold)

Dunno if this helps you any but I don't think it could hurt

get a mbc and go with the flash i would be willing to bet that you are missing out on atleast 20awhp. then you also get a higher rev limit and some other nice stuff and take it from me i have tryed a few tuners but i have gone back to al. you wont be disapointed.
