First of all I am new to the dyno tuning stuff and like most of us here, merely trying to get a faster evo. I read this stuff to learn more about my car.

Does all this mean that before I go for a tune I should check for loose hoses, exhaust and boost leaks, I have over 20K of miles on the stock spark plugs - do I need to change them?

What else do I need to do to get the car ready for a custom tune?

Thanks

I am very tired of this attacking threads

I specifically did not mention Turbo Trixs in my post as I had NO intention to bash their fine product. I have no issue with those guys what so ever.

My goal here was to give an example of a guy who was complaining about his flash being off and show that very often mechanical issues are going on which are the root of serious problems. I did this becuase I get 10 calls a week from people all over the usa saying "my flash tune suddenly jumped out of tune and I need a retune? - FACT of matter is that the flash tune is set in stone and does not suddenly change one day. What changes suddenly is the MECHANICAL CONDITION OF THE CAR

In this case the fact that the customer had previous questions about the dyno results of his old tune are IRRELEVANT to the point I was trying to show. Maybe his tq was slightly lower than ideal - but that is a minor issue copmpared to his condition when he came in.

Becuase the car had mechanical problems it was impposible to make an assessment of the old tune - nor would I want to

All I care about is my product and trying to turn out a decent product

Its a good idea to use zip ties on all your hoses. If there is a problem on the dyno while we are testing we will spot it.

Very often when you dont uise zip ties the hoses can pop off later and create a operational conditiion.

Little hard for the stock hoses to pop off as most have the metal clamps. Whats funny is when guys have to put the silicone colored hose kits on their rides. Then can't figure out the BOV, Boost controller and fuel pressure regulator not working correctly all of the time.
Just basic stuff. Whats sad is quite a few EVO owners are not mechanically inclined and able to do basic work or checks and have to depend on shops. And finding good shops these days its sometimes hard. This board has shown too many times quote un quote shops that don't have the tools or ability for simple diagnosis.
Keep the case studies coming AL, lot of people learn from them.

If the torque curve didnt fall off his whp would be off the scale.

Do the math:

torque(rpm)/5250 = hp

Come down strap the car , make the torque number and your 500 dollars richer...

Mark - if you go back to the original post I did not mention tq numbers, boost numbersm your shop, you or anything to do with you what so ever.

How you can say that my goal was "In my eyes it was not a post to point out mechanical issues but to point out the tune done by me made only 300 ft lbs of torque" is beyond me. I think you really have to read between the lines of what I wrote to draw that inference.

I can not be responsible for the additional comments that our mutual customer later posted in the thread.

Obviously, if he came to me for a follow up tune he must have had some concerns with his tune - - JUST AS in the case of my former customers who go to your shop after having my tune who have their own concerns.

My point in making the thread was to illustrate a situation - NOT bash anyone's work. You do a fine job and obviously your tuning was not this guys problem.

Did you do a baseline pull on this car with the TT flash after fixing the vacuum line problem?

No by the time the vacuum hose was found and fixed the TT flash was removed - I thought this was clear in the original post # 1 above - "I wont show the previous tune as with the fuel pressure line off the test was not accurate)"

Apparently this low tq or missing tq question has given rise to a seperate dialoge over in this thread

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...7&page=1&pp=15

I would prefer if people who want to discuss low tq issues conduct that discussion in the other thread
