2nd ecu for race gas?

Al, I am thinking about getting a second ecu strictly for a race gas map. What are my options as far as which years could I use?

I didnt know if I would use an 03..

And I remember you telling me at Pruven that the 04's have 2 different versions for the ecu..

And I doubt that I could use an 05 ecu.

Thanks for your help Al

I do have alcohol, but when I get the 3065, I would like to have the option of going with a straight race gas map..I believe that there is power to be had with a bigger turbo and race gas vs pump and alky

Although with the stock turbo, I probably wouldnt see much, if any difference in power going to race gas..

kmcconn9 GREAT idea.

I've a 2003 EVO. I've looked for the price of a new ECU and it’s about 700. Although, I have a few questions about low high octane ECU swapping:

1. Is the car's key matched to the ECU? My understanding is the ECU isn't matched. Switching between a low octane ECM and high octane ECM can be done without any issues.

2. When I get Dynoflashed, can I show up with one ECU and get flashed for both low and high octane. Then, in the future, purchase another ECM and upload the high octane file to my new ECU?

3. I do not fully understand this from AL:
"Note - guaranteed effective rating on ecu memory is 100 flashes so you don't want to switch maps every day, this is most effective for those who use pump gas mapping most of the time and want to switch to race gas mapping on occasional track use, etc. After you flash it 100 times it will prob last for several hundred more but the manufacturer of the ecu specifies 100."

I believe he indicates the ECU Memory becomes full and can't be purged. Is this a correct assumption?

Thank you all for the help.
Phillip

The ECU memory after 100 flashes could get unstable even though the chances that it might be slim.

Guys - its very easy to also add a second ecu if you want - you can pick them up on ebay for $200

Also - we have the new self changing equipment which is another option

Technology advances and I strive to keep up to date and offering the best services for the customer

How do we reprogram the Immobilizer when we switch ECUs? Do we have to take it to the dealership?

/\ yes you have to take it to the dealership, or just get a key from the person that you are getting the ecu from...
