What's the question? What do 18s have to do with launching?

I have the same question....the first thing that comes to mind would be the clutch/various drivetrain pieces...

I don't see a correlation to the diameter of the rim. What matters is the rotational mass (weight), and even then the only thing we can say is that the heavier the rim/tire combo, the harder it is to accelerate.

But I don't know if that's what he meant.

Although the rims look terribly ugly in that pic, the Enkei RPM2 in 18X8 only weigh 19.4lbs each, which is over a pound less than stock despite being a full inch larger.

Yes technically larger rims will "hurt" the drivetrain more usually.

First of yes the sidewalls can not flex as much (Assuming you are using thinner sidewalls as I presume you are).

Secondly you are usually raising the launch speed slightly (Assuming the tires are slightly taller). Instead of launching at 5,500 which = 31.2 mph you are launching at 5,500 which may = 35 mph.

Lastly, the traction you get (Assuming same treadwear, tire type, etc..) will be greater. You have more rubber hitting the ground which gives more traction. Simple physics, somethings gotta give

Now does any of this really matter.... probably not. The difference is so small anyways you wont notice aside from it may be slightly tougher to launch the car well.

I trashed my t-case on my old EVO at the strip because I was spinning tires. A few times the car was just bouncing because of that. I was running 19" wheels (heavy) but I was still getting 1.6xx 60' times. I think the lower profile tires contributed to the wheel hop.
