al, help! car revs and wont shift...

i was driving to work this morning, came to a red light, i downshifted from 3rd to 2nd, all of a sudden the car rev'd up to 6k, i put it in neutral and its still sitting at 6k and holding. i tried to put it into 1st or 2nd gear, clutch didnt work and the car wasnt moving. so i turned off the car, let it sit for a few mins and tried again. same thing happened, car starts and steadily revs up without putting my foot in the pedal.

so i pushed the car to the parking lot and went to work. when i was on lunch break i decided to start up the car again, this time it was fine and rpm was steadily around 1k. i shifted into 1st and the car was moving, so i figured its not the clutch or defective hoses. seconds later, rpm rev to 3k while i was in neutral. the weird thing is, when i tired to move my car down the lot, it accelerates without touching the gas pedal, i shifted into 1st and the car slowly takes off.

im guessing its the sensors not reading correctly or the ecu is not reading correctly?

WOW, that is interesting... the clutch should operate completly indepently regardless of the rpms..
People reported high rpms when disconnecting the rev limiter switch on the clutch pedal however the rpms would eventually go down and the car would always shift.. I experienced that myself

thats what i thought too, rpm is higher than usual after the tune, before the tune it idles around 800-900, now its 1.1k-1.3k. but then again, its really weird about the clutch. while it was rev'd at 6k, i shifted into 1st and 2nd, and i swear the car did not move an inch

I would have the car looked over by a mechanic - sounds like your TB may be sticking open

No way a vaccum leak can get rpm's all the way to 6K.
Also it would do it all the time.

My guess is with Al on this one.
TB sticking. Or accelerator cable sticking.

No.

Tb = throttle body.

The throttle body (TB) controls the amount of air going into the intake manifold. At idle, it is open slightly. When your TB is sticking, it means that it is sticking in a more open position, allowing more air to enter, thus raising the rpms (since the ECU doesn't want the engine to die, it will add more fuel to compensate the added incoming air from the open TB).

Try cleaning it out w/ carb cleaner to remove any excess carbon buildup. (remove the I/C hose to expose the TB)
