stock 2-step

does anyone use their factory 2 step launch control on your 05 evo 8's? if yes how effective is it and how much better is the launch control that Al offers.

thanks.

Stock ECU's aren't programmed with/have activated two step...hence Al needing to put it in there/activate it.

03-04 didnt have one but it came from factory in the 05+ evos at 5k and even the stock one is more affective then just holding the pedal because you are actually building boost off the line.

03 and 04 did NOT have any launch control from the factory or any standing rpm cutoff whatever you want to call it.

If anyone has an 03/04 with a 2 step, it has been flashed.

The earlier Evos all have them...I have an 04 and the 2 step rpm range is just set past redline...Any tuner can come back in and reset the RPM's lower so the 2 step then becomes functional.. Nobody is writing code to enable anything.

^if its just past red line then your talking about the standard rev limiter that all cars have, but were talking about the 2-step that comes on '05+ evo, where if your not moving it will only rev to 5K stock.

Thats right.. from a standing position it will rev upto 5k rpm and stay there. my question is can i launch the car as is right now or does al have to still program it to be effective?

No hes right. It is there on the 03s, as he said it was just set so high from the factory so that its above the regular rev limiter and thus you could not hit it. With a flash you can lower it so that its enabled.

It's a "stationary rev limit". All Evo's have it. The earlier models just had it set WAY too high.

It is still not launch control. It is set around 7900 rpm's. No one should launch that high, therefore the 2 step really is not available.

I know it is there, it just can NOT be used unless it has been flashed This is where confusion sets in because people want to compare the same thing to the 05+ launch control. It is the same thing once flashed, but not usable unless flashed.

Or if your Curt Brown, then it is ok.
