HKS 264/264 vs 264/272

Hello Al-

I currently have a set of hks 264 cams sitting in front of me. Should I try to locate / trade up to the 272 ex cam? What will I be giving up in terms of drivability, response by running the 264/272 combo? I also have a 3" turbo back exh. & K&N filter

This is my daily driver.

Thanks in advance. Now, I will just be waiting for you to come to so cal for your street tune.

From what I've heard, 264/264 is the ideal setup for a daily driver. You would want to do a 264/272 setup if you were to be getting a larger turbo or boosting the hell out of yours because the 272 exhaust cam will help the turbo spool faster. In wise of driveability, I've heard that a 264/272 setup can still be a little rough. It will be pretty reliable, but not as comfortable as 264/264. I'm planning to go with 264/264 because I'm happy with about 350 whp. I have no intension of dragging this car, road courses are where it's at... By the way, I called Buschur for info and this guy Nick I know who had his Skyline in the past Ultimate Street Car Challenge, he's very knowledgeable about these kind of things.

You people with cams, does your mpg suffer because of them other than your heavy foot? I'm basic BPU and trying to decide what to do next: cams or the buschur FMIC. Al, your input here is welcome as well

I am in the same spot with similar questions,

here is a little bump.

AL whats your take on this. what kind of fuel economy loss do you see with the 264, i am curious to know what is the max HP that can be made with the 264s on a stock turbo and at what boost levels.

thanks

How much of a change in drivability is it with the 272's?

Is it any harder to drive or is it just simply that the idle is rough and it still drives the same?

Its not harder to drive. Once the car gets moving then you really cant tell. Once you step on it then its crazy fast top end speed. With a remapped Ecu, the idle is still rough but not as bad as some of the cars ive seen with out it. Sounds mean!

OK...just at the end of March AL retuned my car with the 264/272 setup. All I can say is it lobes VERY slightly...nothing like the 272/272 combo. I have heard from ALL the vendors and tuners that if your not doing some sort of sick psycho setup like AL, Turbo Trix, or Boost Solutions....the 264/272 is the way to go...and now that I have them...I stand by that same comment. Sooner or later I will be doing a turbo upgrade...more then likely the AMS one. The power is AWESOME...driveability is great...kind of puts a small rumble in your butt and makes the car scream...I'M ALIVE....DRIVE THE HELL OUT OF ME!!!!

Get the 264/272...I can swear to you...that you WILL love it!!!

has anyone done similar setup , dyno test 264/264 vs 264/272 to see if there is significant difference. i know the 272/272 should have some gains, but i dont think it would be that different.

I am getting the 264s setup soon and was wondering if cam gear should be included or needed with Al flashes ( fireball 3 or 4?)
