what about using a maf adapter for ur KnN cone?

or u can just get a Buschur intake or Apexi power intake cuz it keeps the stock pipe

I would advise against installing it. Sell it on ebay or return it. Buy yourself a buschur filter kit for $80 if you want the same sound, or keep the stock airbox. I had the typhoon on my 05 and it ran like total crap.

I installed one of these on my car and had it on there for over 2 yrs with no issues at all other than the carbon shroud mounting was kinda cheap.

i have pieces of a typhoon intake on my car. it ran like shizzle with the hard pipe on but you can use the MAF adapter and cone filter. then it works fine. it something to do with the hard pipe cuz it makes me car fuel cut or something and go way lean.

I dont know why they put it in there but it sure screws it up

I was just reading this thread, and I used to have the same type of intake. I was having problems with it and I noticed the tiny flap inside. I was tempted to get my dremel and sand it down or cut it, but I got lazy and decided to go back to stock and sold my intake on ebay. I wonder if that could've have changed things??

i installed the K&N Typhoon Kit on my Evo 9 IX yesterday... I am experiencing an important loss of power with cut-off at rpm 5. The car also stalled once.
The car is all stock except for the HKS SSQV2 BOV.

I wish I read this before buying it..... Anyway, this is what got out from reading it:

I will try to turn the MAF 180 degrees today and see if it works...
If not, I will try to remove the flap and check again...
If not, I will try installing the stock tube while keeping the the filter and heat shield.
If not, I will reinstall the stock filter and buy the HKS Suction Kit.

It's weird though because a friend of mine bought an EVO VIII 3 years ago with the K&N Typhoon already installed along with an HKS turbo-back exhaust, and it is working great...

i flipped the MAF and reset the ECU, it did not work.

i removed the K&N tube and installed the stock one, and kept the heat shield and the filter. It went back to normal...

bottom line: K&N SUCKS!!

They are keeping in the market a product which proved to be flawed for more than 2 years.

I will sell it and buy the HKS EVO Reloaded Racing Suction Intake System.

Just installed the K & N Typhoon Intake on my 06 MR...absolutely love it with no problems at all. This "advisory" is indicative of the Bad side of the internet. You have someone that buys this intake that has "Other" issues with problems on thier car and the Intake brings them to the surface. This Intake works flawlessly, if your car is running properly to begin with nothing will happen when you install this intake but a huge increase in power and torque. The Intake makes lots of noise when inhaling and you can clearly now hear the diverter valve (blowoff valve) exhale extra boosted air. If you like the whoosh sound then get this intake, it's not too loud but you can clearly hear it. I think it sounds proper for a boosted engine. But I didnt buy this intake for the sound but for the power. It made power along the lines of 15 HP, my friend has a program that when hooked up to the ecu can estimate horse power and torque the intake clearly made a big difference in both.
I am Pleased with the K&N Intake, I would suggest it to anyone with an EVO.

Bought an HKS RS today. Will compare it with the old K&N that I used to have.

I contacted K&N with my concerns about purchasing this intake.

My experience with K&N in the past has been nothing but amazing. I have used their filters on my Toyota Truck, Supra TT, ST185 Celica all trac, 3 MR2 Turbos of various Tune, my Honda CBR1000RR, My Blazer, as well as many other cars I have worked on.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with K&N products. So I was really upset to read what was put in this "advisory" I contacted K&N by E-mail the other day to express my concerns. My goal is to dyno my car (bone stock), put my exhaust on (Greddy Ti-C) and dyno the car with and without the silencer, install the K&N Typhoon intake, and dyno the car again with and without the silencer.

I am a man of numbers, while I do like subjective impressions of modifications, I like to have objective numbers in front of me. I explained this to K&N, as well as my concerns with what I have read, and here was the response I received yesterday:

Dear Austin,

To start, yes if you are not completely satisfied you can return the kit for a full refund. However as long as everything has been installed correctly, we have not had any verifiable issues with our intakes and modern mass air sensors. Hope this helps; and let me know how the Dyno testing turns out.

If you have any additional questions, please contact our Customer Support Department at 1-(800)-858-3333.

Thank you for choosing K&N,

I will be doing all of these installations in the next few weeks. I will post all of my numbers. The test car is a bone stock 2006 Evolution MR that is 3 months old, and has 11,000 miles on it (I travel alot). I will post my results when I have them
