wrex4x4,
do you mean that K&N has a smaller cone filter than the one that comes with the Typhoon kit and does it fit the Typhoon hard pipe?

Guys,

Why don't you return the intake to K&N? I put it in my car and it ran like sh**. Took it out and called K&N and returned it with a full refund. I figured if it did not work properly I was not going to screw around with it. They told me to turn the MAS sensor upside down. I told them to take it back! I have used their products for years and never had a problem. The screwed up on the design on this one. Just my 2 cents.

well guys i turned the maf upside down today and believe it or not it worked. my car pulls a lot harder than it ever did. for me it was really hard to tell befor because of all the mods i had but now it really puts me in the seat. so all i can say is if you have a k&n intake or probably any other intake try turning the maf upside down. hey it only takes a few minutes and hell its worth a try. it worked for me and a few other people. also make sure that you reset the ecu as well. good luck guys.

I turned mine upside down and it feels the same, although I haven't had any power issues since installing the AFCII with the intake. I just wanted to stop the stop and go stalling issues. I'm yet to see if it works but I'll update over the course of the week.

You know what I didn't feel any difference until i threw my exhaust and boost controller on my Evo. Before i installed the exhaust and boost controller everything was running flawlessly. After the installment i am experiencing fuel cut-off. I'm going to take my evo and get it dyno tune and see how it goes.

I've been messing around (off and on) with my K&N Typhoon intake for over a year now. It's been in and out of the car a few times, and I've had mixed results with it. The last time I tested it against the stock air box my Evo went from 300 whp to about 290. I also lost about 5 ft/lbs of torque.

One thing that has always bothered me about the Typhoon's design is that huge fin in the main pipe that's just in front of the BOV recirc inlet. On my intake that blade has to cover 15% to 20% of the possible main flow area. Not to mention all the turbulence that must cause just upstream from the turbo. I think I will experiment with keeping the cone filter and temporarily replacing the metal pipe with the stock rubber one to see how the car responds. If that works I'll cut the big blade out of my K&N (or modify and shrink the blade design) and re-test it.

I cut (removed) the fin (flap) from the turbo intake pipe, and the car felt a little better, solved some issues about stalling thou... A couple of days ago, I changed the turbo intake pipe for a HKS, Injen type pipe and couldn't notice any difference, but I'm still using the Typhoon cone filter. Maybe if I change the filter I could solve all of my issues...

Actually switching to the stock rubber tube helped quite a bit. The car's low speed driveability is much better (like the stock airbox) and the car no longer has waste gate flutter at low rpms. I'm not sure if it's providing better power than the stock airbox, though. It also cuts the the sound of the waste gate dumping down to very quiet, although it doesn't quiet the intake air all that much. One other bonus has been that the idle has less lope now and is overal more stable and less prone to stalling - again it's closer to the stock airbox.

After another close look at the way the stock rubber tube was designed comaperd to the HKS aluminum tube, in addition to the issues with that big blade (turbulence and reduced flow) I also looked at the way dumped air (wastegate) and vaccum for the boost controler were being recyled into back into the intake stream - in both cases the OEM tube looks to have a better design. I also think that sudden change in intake size right at the turbo inlet might be a source of problems.

Flipped the Typhoon over with no different results. The car still wants to stall in stop and go traffic when you let out the clutch and pull forward a bit and then depress the clutch again. Everytime it does stall, it takes about 10 seconds to start up again and then the SES light comes on. HAs cutting the fin out of the tube helped anyone out with this?

Yeah, best bet: go HKS either Drop-in or pipe ..
