How much E85 can I mix with gas and not retune?

I just found an E85 pump close to my house which I am very excited about. Its at a newer station and I would like to try to use it to up my octane a bit but want to know how much is safe to run as it sits?

I don't care to get silly but would like to get some ideas on what is safe.

Thanks!

It's not like race gas where you can just increase your octane with it, since it requires a different AFR. To add enough to raise your octane enough to matter would lean you out. If you are tuned I wouldnt do it at all, if you're untuned it would probably be fine to add some but you'd want a wideband to make sure you aren't too lean at WOT.

like Merkzu said, probably none. Factory cars that can run E85 are adjustable so that mixtures can be run, but not our cars. basically you have either E85 or regular fuel, or you have to take a looooot of time retuning every tank, which is obviously too much work.

what does it take to make the evo e85 compliant. is it just a matter of getting a new fuel pump and injectors. Or do you need to upgrade the fuel lines also?

With a moderately modded Evo does one need more than a 255 or would a double pumper be a better idea just in case I want more when I do the turbo?

How much injector are folks going with?

Is it possible to have two tunes? One for pump and one for E85 that can be switched back and fourth?

Sorry for the newb questions, don't kick a brother too hard. I just love the idea of getting cheaper fuel that I can run at track days as the high test and race gas mix I am running while getting about 5mpg is KILLING a brother.

My cousin and I have been running about 2gallons of e85 with a fill up of 93. My car idles a lot smoother and the power transition is much nicer. Its not a huge power increase but you definitely can feel it. Also my cousin just got tuned by Sean Ivey, before we went to his shop we put in two gallons of e85 and filled up with 93. Sean told us how he noticed the car was knock free for the amount of timing he used.

to run that i believe you need a tune with 1000cc injectors and fuel pump. you need a lot of fuel moving...lol. but the power gains are awesome

You still on stock ECU?? If so, with a Walbro 255 and 880cc injectors you won't max them out with anything a FP Green can throw at it. 750cc will probably even be enough.

Just like you can have 2 tunes for pump and race gas, you can do the same with pump and E85. . .

I am running my 780's at 83% IDC on 91 oct on a stock 8 turbo. So I would suggest to everyone to use 1000cc inj. Oh and my AFR tapers to an 11.0 at 7500

What we have noticed about E85-E98 on stock turbos:

Max 850s and a single pump at 429whp on a dynojet
Max 1000s and dual pumps at 470whp on a DJ (12.0 out the top)
1200s and dual pumps feed the fire and give you 10.9-11.2 out the top

My car with a Green and E30 mix (I can mix my own)

I went from 11.5 AFR to 13.2 AFR by adding 30%. My 780s are nearly maxed with the Green now and 27psi on a single 255. My fuel map went from 11.8s to 9.9s to get the AFR back down to 11.5

I ran 119.7 at 23psi on a Green, S2s, ETS 4" FMIC, and E30

Wow, you're at 83% on pump gas? So then for your MS109 tune, considering you made a lot more power and are using an oxygenated gas that needs to flow about 5% more fuel, you must be at what, 100% ??

On the stock ECU, 880's work. Others can "suggest" all they want, but I've done it and it works fine for over 440 whp on a Dynojet with an 11.4 @ 123, 1.8 60' . . . .
