Ok, if there is someone with all components ready to test I can send 9653 flex rom+xml. And I repeat you have to have all needed components ready when you ask it, I will not send rom anyone to just you to have it and I will send it max two people at the moment, clear enough? If you ask it, I ask you to report how it works. Also remember that I fully support testers when it comes to this application but I don't want to answer questions how to tune your fuel map etc etc trivial so sort of tuning experience is also needed. Too much conditions? PM me for details if still interested.

I'm very sorry but I will not give it in this phase to everyone, that will happen when it's all tested more and others just have to be patient. Like said so far no problems but if there is some bugs I don't want and can't support whole world. Sorry if it sounds like I'm *** but I have my daily work to do and this is just hobby and I don't have time to support too many people. I hope you all understand

Little update for flex support, first IX with 8858 converted to true flexfuel and seems to work ok. Testing goes on, so far so good. Linear curve for fuel seems to work ok as well as for ignition but there is only few degrees difference in ignition maps compared to gasoline.

Why so little timing differences?
With the boost at 23psi and above, i'm seeing peak timing differences of up to 8 deg.

Because it already gives more torque than I really need in this testing phase and with stock internals.

I have been testing the 9653 based Flexfuel ROM by Donner. I have JDM Evo 8 MR 3-plug ECU installed in older Evo and I'm running MAP EF2 turbo, 3" exhaust, cams etc.

The tuning process was following:
- Car was first live-mapped with gasoline and this map was then stored to base maps. Tank was emptied and filled with E85.
- Then the car was live-mapped with E85 and this map was left to alternate maps.

After that I basically had gasoline and E85 maps. Differences were in ignition map, injector scaling, cranking primer pulse map and very slight adjustments in fuel map.

Few days later I installed the GM ethanol sensor in the fuel return line, wired it to a Frequency-Voltage converter developed by Donner's friend and wired that to ECU A/D converter input (the same that is used to switch maps in Tephra ROM). The converter outputs voltage between 0.25V and 4.75V for ethanol content between 5% and 85%. This ROM has configurable safety feature if the voltage is below or over certain value it will revert to gasoline ignition map and E85 fuel map and injector scaling. This protects against broken wire, sensor or frequency-voltage converter.

I enabled the Flexfuel functionality in the ROM and drove around with few different mix of gasoline and E85 in the tank. All the time my fuel trims and WOT AFR stayed right where they were supposed to be. Clearly the interpolation between gasoline and E85 maps was working based on the ethanol content measured by the sensor.

I finished the install on Saturday and I was so confident on this system that on Sunday morning the car was at the local track with 50% ethanol in the tank. I had few cans of E85 with me so that I could top up with E85 and test many different mixtures. There was only a slight problem with ethanol content % value falling a little at long WOT in higher gears which seems to be a feature of the GM sensor (I verified that later by measuring the frequency that the sensor outputs). Software filtering will be tuned in the converter to avoid this happening but even as is the effect in AFR was pretty minor, about 0.2 AFR.

The day ended a bit too early because my Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pump died. You can blame E85 or Aeromotive for that but not the Flexfuel ROM.

What can I say... It works

So for those of you who have installed an Ethanol sensor, which is the easiest to install and configure and why?

Updates? I was thinking to switching to stand alone till I saw this!

My brother is converting his G8 to flex fuel and someone suggested this sensor for him:

13577394 - Sensor - $77.65
13352241 - Harness - $9.60

When you guys start releasing this, where does that leave guys like me who haven't tuned a vehicle before? I am reading up on how to tune but I'm scared to since my car is on a built motor with big turbo.

It's time to start learning how! Start reading and allow 6-9 months of evenings and weekends for logging and testing.

I don't see the need, at least for me. I've been running on E85 only for over four years now with no reason or desire to go back to petrol. I can't really see any reason to want to flex back and forth between the two fuels.

Are there Evo owners in this thread who actually want and plan to alternate between petrol and E85 on a regular basis?

Yes - I do a lot of driving in areas where E85 is not always readily available and often have to fill up with 91 without to running the tank dry before switching to my Alt map. Usually this means running too lean on my E85 map or too rich on my 91 map. The flex fuel patch would save constantly having to tweak fuel map, timing, WGDC and injector scaling to deal with the variation in octane rating.
