mrfred,

With news of the OEMs now going away with the flex fuel sensor, have you thought of maybe designing the patch in a way similar to what they may be doing?

I'm assuming short term fuel trims would be the driving force here.

I believe they do it based on fuel trims, which probably wouldn't be precise enough for what we want to do with it.

*The old way with real sensor (optical- hz)

*The virtual sensor today--dang- I had a real good link where it discussed Ford's switch over and the methodology--lost now due to old age on the web- cannot find it. Now i get a 404 code- GRRRR

*This ionization method I do not believe made it to market;

Yeah, I thought about using the fuel trims quite some time ago. In theory, it can work, but one thing that we could first need to fix is to make E85 AFRs insensitive to air temperature. Probably could be fixed with the global air density table, but would be better to have a separate table to handle it so load is not affected. At any rate, it probably is do-able, but I think we are better off using an ethanol content sensor.

OHHHH, I hope you can get this working... It would be excellent for our Time Attack car that runs all sorts of mixes of E85.

When you say, "use fuel trims", I assume that means using the narrow band sensor and the fuel trims to adjust idle and cruz. This I can understand. I'm not sure that would work out of the box. That should work assuming the trims has a broader range.

What I don't understand would be using trims for boosted load. How might that work? I presume it would require a wideband to be read by the ECU, correct? Could the ECU trim fast enough under acceleration?

The same way the Evo's use it currently for WOT. LTFT is used in a certain HZ window for WOT adjustment of fueling.

I still think the fuel trims probably work fine for factory flex fuel cars but wouldn't have the resolution or speed required for what we are looking for.

Its on the list, but admittedly, not very high. Current list is:

1) New boost control algorithm (in-progress).

2) SD 2.0 (acamus already has a patch. I think there are a few minor features that I want to add.)

3) Flex fuel patch.

Will SD 2.0 still work with spoolin up's conversion?

I'm much more interested in #1 on that list right now, as I don't recall reading anything about that. mrfred, did I miss a thread?

Yeah, I'm interested too. Haven't posted anything. Its going to be a rewrite of the v7 boost code with changes to reflect what I think are important. Many of the features will remain. I just need to finish tuning a few people's cars, and then I'll be back to this.
